The Giving Up Smoking Thread!! Part 2

Hello folks
Good to see some new quitters on board, and well done to everyone!
It's now 1 year 7 months since I quit and it feels fab to be free of those horrible ciggies. I've had various stressful things happen over the last few months but nothing on earth would make me start smoking again.
I honestly believe success in quitting is down to your mindset - you've got to be absolutely determined you want to kick the nasty habit, and need to be doing it for yourself and not someone else. It's not about 'giving up' - it's all about gaining. Gaining better health and cash, for starters! No more worrying about when, where or how you'll get your fix, no more standing in doorways with the other lepers, no more smelly clothes, breath and fingers. Smoking doesn't relieve stress - it causes it. The only pleasure you get from smoking is the relief from the withdrawal symptons, honest.
Keep at it newbies - this quitsmoking thread is great and a real motivator :j

i stopped smoking two yrs ago in april for 3 months not by choice though and stupidly i thought i could just have 1-yeah right!!! i atopped because i was in hospital unable to move from having a stroke at 26
but now i am going to stop because i want to not because of my situation. but i suppose its also to do with money i am on IS and have no money left at the end of each month, my car insurance is due at the begining of oct and without my car i have to rely on public transport on my good days which means i will be virtually housebound (the strokes have left me with mobility problems)
you would think after having a stroke i would never want to pick of a cancer stick again but i missed it well 3 strokes and quite a bit of time later i am giving it a go. i tried the patches-but they made my arm itchy sore and red and from what i have read on here thats quite a common complaint.
i am glad i decided to use champix on saturday i smoked 5 and was looking forward to giving up-those 5 tasted disgusting so i was glad to put smoking behind me once and for all.
So why am i posting on here? because i need the support from people who have quit and trust me i am no good at asking for help but i figure if i don't i won't be here in a few years so surely its better asking for help while i still can
so please feel free to kick me up up the bum i might not like it at the time but i will appreciate it in the long run trust me
thanks for reading my waffle

I gave up 2 months, four days, nine hours and fifteen minutes ago.
I gave up using Champix and will power. I now totally rely on common sense.;)
Thanks for that Daz and I'm delighted for you ~ BUT ~ the thing that helps folk so much is seeing how long others have lasted as it spurs them on in letting them know it's doable. It also lets them see who's using what to quit with and lets them know more about the options and feedback from each.
So, if you'd kindly pop it (2 months, four days, Champix) on the title bar it honestly does help. It's helpful to you also!
A warm welcome to being an ex-smoker Ellie!!! Excellent news in having already stopped for 2 weeks, you're doing brilliantly!!! :T:T Keep with us and let us know how you're doing, it not only helps you it helps the others here who are quitting with you as well as those reading posts. Stay strong at all times Ellie and be assured that it's so possible to turn your health prospects right around. All the best in doing just that!! BTW please could you put your time given up for and means of stopping on the Title bars of each post? Thanks a lot.
Hi DD, a great idea in browsing the alcohol thread, good thinking given that it's all about addiction. You're doing so very well DD, stay strong.
Hello there Pam! :hello: Such great advice to give out. Great to see you and it's always good to read how much you feel this thread helped you, great news. I can barely believe just how long you've been quit for, but 1 year 7 months  is truly amazing!!!!! :T:T:T I know I've said it before Pam, but please do keep popping in, you're such a great help with all you say and it's such a great help for ALL of us!:A
Well done jammy, great advice there, great amount of time you've now quit for too!!! :T:T:T
All the very best everyone, you're all doing so very, very well and always remember that you're NEVER ALONE, others here and all through the country share you're feelings ....your excitement too!!! :j Stick with it whatever you do.

Hello and welcome to the thread steph! I'm so sorry I missed you earlier, we must have been typing at the same time. However, as you know I did see you there a little later and have sent you the PM, I hope it helps. By the way, you didn't waffle at all, you gave us information about yourself which is vital to be able to help more.
I was so very sorry to hear that at 26 years old you suffered, what sounds like, a powerful stroke...and had 2 others since, is that right? You poor lass. Still, it sounds as though you're staying as upbeat as possible which is by far the best way to be. Well done on tackling quitting again, I have to admit that when you do it by choice it makes a heck of a difference. Lets hope this will be they time when you really do QUIT for good!!You'll be a darned sight better off health wise and financially if you can do it.
All the very best for success with champix, it sounds as though it's working well already which is great news. To help you further in using it, drink plenty of water so it 'dilutes' it and doesn't have too much of a nauseous affect on you. Don't you worry, we'll give you a kick when it's necessary though normally after a little while folk soon get a real buzz out of the 'ex-smoker' feeling ~ I know I did!
You'll get plenty of support here Steph, meanwhile take care of yourself and look ahead to feeling a whole lot better ~ and hearing a jingling of cash in your pockets. All very best wishes.

Pam x
I could not agree more with this post.
Remember, new quitters, that you are not giving anything up and you are not going without something, you are actually freeing yourself of something that is harmful, restrictive and expensive.
And you never have to look like thisS!!!!horpe0 -
Hello to all the newcomers:hello: It does get easier. I barely ever think about smoking now and have been in the company of smokers without it bothering me in the slightest. Apart from the smell that is;):dance:Mash p'tater, mash p'tater:dance:0

Ah.....bless you Daz. :kisses3:It means a lot otherwise I wouldn't harp on about it.
I'm with Pam on that photo, it really is one of those "Ugghhhh" ones. It almost makes me feel bad thinking of all the smoke and smell drifting into his hair, eyes and nose.I can't look at it again, I'm going green.
Onto far brighter things:
Great news Shel, you've done so very, very well. It's amazing how quickly time goes by and the time and distance has finally freed from those blasted fags. Congratulations Shel, and thanks a lot for the input to others! Keep coming back as it's always great to see quitters!
You're all going great guns folk. Whatever you do stay strong and focused and think beautiful thoughts if ever naughty ones come into your mind. A wonderful memory can replace cravings instantly, so get the photos out - or close your eyes and allow yourself to go back to something precious.....NOT to be advised whilst driving!!!
