And I do know cutting down before quitting is not always a recommended method, as waccoe says it can lead to pining away after your cigarettes and checking your watch etc.
I'm trying to keep that in my mind and get out of that head space. It seems to be OK right now but I'll keep you posted.0 -
Hi Derby-Girl
I hope I didn't sound like I was giving a lecture on cutting down not working. It is just from my experience. Having had another think, it is a case of what is right for you.
I have to totally abstain or I will hear that little voice in my head saying "one more won't hurt, just have one less tomorrow".
Reading a lot of posts, it is amazing how we all vary so much in how we are feeling and how we deal with it.
If it feels right, do it.
Come on, we can beat this little b***er called nicotine!

I think for some of us, cutting down can be a step in the right direction and for others it is just a long drawn out way of avoiding ever really quitting, which in my experience is just prolonging the agony. I should know, I used to promise myself to smoke only on a Friday evening - consequently I was going quietly crazy all week.
Also, Friday turned into Saturday and then Sunday etc......and I kept thinking that even if I was only smoking two a week, I was still a smoker and deep in my heart I wanted to loosen the hold that nicotine had over me.
I must have wasted hundreds of pounds throwing tobacco in the bin to force myself to not smoke it.....then I would be running to the off licence for more.

Hi folks
Well I managed my first week, but yesterday was very, very hard. I think the nicotine gremlin was determined I wouldn't manage a full week  and I've gone back to a full patch. It was touch and go from 8am till I went to bed, but today is a new day, and okay so far.
I hope everyone is enjoying the weather, I think my sense of smell must be returning because the blossom seems really strong, mind you I've had trouble with sinuses for years so probably just more gunk clearing. I also find the gym easier, I can run faster , and it's nice to see even little daily improvements. Must keep concentrating on that next time the gremlin rears his ugly head!
Stay strong everyone,

Hey Cath,
really well done on your first week, I found that the hardest week. Now you can look back and think, if I got over that I can cope with anything.
I have been on the full strength 25mg patches from the start, today I am trying the 15mg, so far, so good.
