    One week !!!!

    Hi all,
I am still gardening, with a vengeance ! and knitting again in the evening, anything to keep my hands occupied! The spare bedroom is 1/2 stripped now, however i do have a whole 2 bed house to completely redecorate as it was rewired at the beginning of the year. I love gardening tho and this is my form of 'mindful meditation' Yesterday was difficult as my DSIL died suddenly , but i knew a cig wouldn't deal with it ... so emptied the shed and took a load of junk to the tip!

Birdlady well done and keep soaking those squirrels!
Derby girl yes hun, i felt dizzy a couple of days, but now i am aware of the munchies lurking!!

Keep doing what youre doing and get what we've got today,
    Caz

Congratulations Caz, I really hope I can do as well as you, especially since you had such bad news yesterday. I'm not sure I would've been as strong in the circumstances.

Don't talk about munchies:eek: , I haven't even reached the food tasting wonderful again stage and I can't stop eating!

Think I need to start coming here.

Tried giving up earlier this year, but didn't manage it. So, I'm going to try again. Been smoking sice I was 14, so that's 13 years (nearly half of my life!) spent attached to nicotine. I need to cut down, then quit or I won't manage it. First test is tomorrow - a nearly 4 hour exam...If I can get through that, I can cut down for the rest of the day.

Oh larmy16, was so touched to read that you are thinking about me! Still here, reading the posts a couple of times a day and wondering about chollie, bluebellbunny, nervousmother and others.

I need all the support I can get at the moment 'cos there is very little here, at home. Why, oh why, does all NRT support stop at 3 months? Forgive me for my cynicism, but is it so that the NHS can point to all the successes and the NRT manufacturers can make more money ? ..... we start smoking again and then in a few months start NRT again :rotfl:

DH has suggested I start again so that I can lose the weight ( yes, I am constantly moaning about it :) ) and because "smoking prevents alzheimers". Something tells me that he will never give up and it is not easy living in the same house with someone who can sit outside on a warm evening with a glass of wine and a cigar whilst I struggle. Since I stopped smoking he has upped his daily (self-imposed) limit - it must be living with me. Yesterday, I failed to bite my tongue and said something along the lines of "another one, but you have just had one" :D

Want to write more but must get to bed - will be back.

Great to see so many new folk!
    I am a non-smoker :j last cigarette 10th February 2010

    Morning All :)

Have a sore throat today, no doubt something to do with the gunk clearing out. On the plus side today I start to be in profit (cigarette money saved minus patches bought). I need a pretty tin to put the huge £4/day in.

Have a great day everyone :)

great to hear from you oldreekie there where quite a few of us that started this road to freedom at the same time i hope too that they are all doing so well .
it must be harder for you at times with a smoker anout you but feel proud that you are so much stronger for freeing yourself from that 24hr chain around your neck ( sorry cant do anythong about other half though;)) look how far you've come :j
i think as larmy says this middle road where you've stopped and feel like suceeded can be a wobbly time as you may be lulled into its so easy trap and be temted back as you "can always do it again " forgettig all those very hard at times early days
you have all the support you need on here
i hope those not at the quit stage reading these threads are encouraged to jump aboard as i keep saying IT DOES GET EASIER and it truly is the best decision you will ever make ,
dont hesitate do it .do it NOW do it for YOU do it for LIFE x x

    Hi Caz
You are doing great, just think how tidy your house and garden will be, sorry to hear about your DSIL. I think the 1st week is the hardest and you have done it.

    Good morning Cath
After 43 days I will be honest with you, I have not noticed anything tasting better. I have put on 5 pounds but I am a bloke and I couldn't care less! Into your 5th day, come on, 2 more days and you have reached that magical 1st week.

    Welcome Elfen
I would not recommend cutting down, from my experience it doesn't work, it is a really hard thing to stop smoking but the biggest hurdle is to try and not think about it all the time. If you cut down you spend all day looking at your watch waiting for the next cig, been there, done that. It does not work. Please read some previous posts for help and advice.

    Oldreekie, you are a legend
I would not dream of lecturing you, 3 months and 1 week, you are my hero. When I first started on here you were there for me so if there is anything I can do to help, just ask. I would love to have a quite, very private, word with your husband.
Personally, if I was struggling without the patches I would carry on with them, it has to be better than smoking! Have a look on eBay, I have bought some spares at less than the price of a prescription.

    Larm16, full of bright ideas.
I am already driving my wife mad without bubblewrap, twiddling my thumbs and breathing deeply.

    and Jammydodger
Just good sensible, encouraging advice from someone who has stopped for 4 months and 16 days, what can I say but we bow down to you!

Come on, we can all do it, together!!!
    Andrew

Hello all, sounds like everyone is doing great. Are we still feeling positive?

I now have a new plan which I am sticking to quite well. I don't smoke throughout the day but in the evening allow myself one or two after 9:00. This seems to be working well and I feel better already. I had to give a presentation to 65 business owners the other day and I managed it without a cigarette to calm my nerves!

I quoted you, elfen because we are a similar age and I understand what you mean about cutting down before quitting. Do you have any goals set? I hope the four hour exam goes well, if it isn't too late try getting an inhalator with nicotine cartridges, it's working wonders for me!

Best of luck everyone, so proud to hear of your progress :)
