    Aww well done Janiebaby :T

Some time ago we discussed Allen Carr and how he says you should never use NRT therapy, but look it has helped you. There is no one way to quit smoking. What is important is that you do quit however you do it.

Emma133 - have just seen your post from last night and feel awful that no one was around, at that moment in time, to give you some encouragement. Glad to see that you have started a new day with determination to carry on :j

I know exactly what you are going through but, believe me, it does get easier. I am using patches but also have an inhalator for when times get tough! Also, Quiet Life valarian tablets to stop me wanting to hit people :D

This process seems to affect us all in different ways and at the beginning when folk told me it would get easier I was convinced that it would not. But it does and hours pass when I do not even think about smoking. At first, it seemed to dominate my life.....rather like smoking did.

I am not out of the woods yet because, having not been around smokers since stopping, I have no idea how I will react when someone lights up. OH smokes cigars (outside) and they smell foul so the temptation is not there.

    Which patch are you using?

Pour out all you thoughts and frustrations on here - someone will come along and offer support.

    Hi there,

Getting sick of trying to count the days now! I know it's 5 weeks on Friday though :)

Just come from my meeting - CO levels = 0 (down from 25 six weeks ago), BP 105 over 70 (same as before I quit), lung age = 27 (down from 34 six weeks ago, and, more importantly, my actual age!), lung function = 112% (up from 82% six weeks ago). I've put on 1lb in that time (BMI now 19.5), but I reckon that's water retention anyway ;).... So I am feeling really great!

I was talking to the girl at the meeting and she was explaining how everyone's quit is different and no-one feels the same as the next person when they're stopping and that there's nothing wrong with that. If you have somewhere to vent that's always a bonus, hence this board being invaluable! Last night after dinner I did think to myself "I could just have one now" but I'm able to rationalise it in my head now, before I wouldn't have been able to think about anything else.

I have got a bit of a test at the weekend. I'm going away for a Hen Party in Leeds. Luckily enough, I don't think any of the other guests are smokers and my mother will be there anyway (to keep me on the straight and narrow!). It's the first time I've "been away" since stopping though so I hope I don't go into holiday mode!

Hope everyone's doing well - the longer you do, the easier it becomes!

    Xxxx

Old Reekie I can remember that rage. In the early days, of this (my last) quit I can remember walking home from work. Nicotine was nagging me, go into the shops, get some tobacco and you can stop again tomorrow! It was an awful feeling.

I was so full of pent up emotion, I truly felt I could punch someone in the face!
Well I made it home without buying tobacco and without punching someone.

I very occasionally get the fleeing feeling of fancying inhaling, but I have so much time on my side now and that helps discard the thought.

Thanks, I was worried about me too but I think I have managed to change my thinking and that's what done the trick. My sister told me ages ago that you have to view stopping as a positive thing and other people have told me that too but until it actually "clicks" it is hard to understand sometimes. I can honestly say I have barely thought about smoking today only about being happy to be a non smoker.
