2months 2weeks 2days 22hrs 32 mins and 45 seconds not smoked 710 cigs and saved £193.60! Pretty good eh! My goal is to get to next wednesday which is my birthday and ironically "no smoking day" LOL. So Im nearly there now and what a ride its been, lots of lows at the start and now just highs!! Have had a few cravings but not the raw "im gonna kill some1" ones that you get at the start!:o . Really sympathize with all those starting out but also congratulate u on your decision to quit, you really wont regret it.
I would never have made it if I hadnt found this page with the lovely encouraging posts from sue UU (where is she) Larmy and many many more:A they really are great:j
All you new guys are doing great just keep coming on for the encouragement (I was addicted to this thread for my first 4 wks) but as i say would never have done it otherwise!
Good luck everyone you CAN do it ...:)
Smoke free since 16th Dec 2009

Hi Oldreekie - I need polyfiller & new teeth - or is that new gums!

Yes - I escaped for an overnight stay & a two day conference.

I didn't miss that 'having to sneak outside for a fag syndrome' either. I got asked if I wanted to go for one & explained about having stopped a couple of weeks ago.
The cessation woman I spoke to on Monday told me to have a plan for each new encounter I would have. IE Before going into a situation that may challenge you, have a plan on how you will deal with it.
I actually don't mind the smell of smokers too much - that is the danger. I wish I had a disgust of it - would be less 'dangerous' for me.

It's my birthday today & I am a non smoker now.
That feels good - I can't believe that I have stopped.
    Thanks all on here.

Fee - You are doing great.

Choille I don't hate the smell of smoke either but I do loathe the smell of stale smoke on clothing etc. Ironic really as you can't have one without the other! :)

You are doing really well, by the way.

    Happy birthday and well done.

I wish my smoking cessation nurse was like yours, she is hopeless. The best she can do when I said I was finding it hard was to say "well it is hard".

Thank goodness for the support on here and from my family and friends.

    Hi Ameliarate,

I've only seen the nurse once & she did explain that she will be hard with me. She is going to phone me on the 15th & that I think will be all the contact I have. So I am relying on this forum which is great & as much not thinking about it as possible.
If I have a 'pang' I just recognise it for what it is & think 'this will pass soon.' Then I do something ie concentrate on something that needs doing, or wash up or stroke the cat - have a piece of sugar free gum - whatever floats your boat.

    You've done great.
There has been a lot of very stressful things happen since I stopped smoking & I have momentarily thought about going to get some ciggies, but it hasn't happened. I am far from a shop & even if I set off for one, by the time I got there the feeling for a smoke would have passed.
I was in the supermarket the other day & looked across at the cig counter & just thought well that's another £30 saved (I used to buy a multipack).
How on earth did I afford to do that? Why on earthh did I do it for so long?
Keep asking yourself questions. Keep reminding yourself about why you decided to stop. Keep posting & keep off the fags.
    All the best.

I live 2 minutes walk from a shop. I tried to hard to make OH row with me on Monday so I had an excuse to buy some but he wouldn't. Very unusual for him.

I am putting £5 a day in a jar - £80 so far. I can't bear to think of the money I have wasted. What I keep thinking about is that I now have a choice. I didn't when I was addicted. I am choosing not to smoke, not to allow my life to be dictated by those silly little tubes of poison.

My sister went on a holiday to Canada, part of which involved going on a train for two days. It didn't stop in that time and you couldn't smoke on it. I would NEVER have gone on that trip. I would have restricted what I could and couldn't do for a cigarette  Absolute madness.

    Absolute madness.

That is it exactly Ameliarate & that is the story that you have to remember.
When you get a craving remember why you have one, remember why you want to stop, remember it gets better, easier.

The not being able to go there syndrome I know well.
The having to make excuses to 'nip out' of places so I could inhale poisonous toxins into my brain, lungs, mouth etc.
My elderly cat was even suffering the effects of passive smoking!

I just think one day at a time & aquate myself to a dry alcoholic - I'm a smoke free smoker - If I just had the one, I would be back on the 30 a day before no time. I can't start again. I will not start again.
    We will beat this together.
    All the best.

    Hi there!

Not sure I'm allowed on here as I'm not a smoker! My OH is and he is talking about giving up at the end of this month as he is going into hospital for keyhole surgery on his knee and thinks as he'll be off work for a week or more, it'll be a good time to break the habit. He smokes 20 a day and has been since about age 15... which is over 30 years now (hope he doesn't read this!!)

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to help him, but I don't want to nag or push. He has tried a couple of times since I've known him and both times there was months of build up and he didn't last a full day. He says its all the mind and won't consider nrt. He has also said that he tried giving up during his previous marriage and his ex went out and bought him a packet of cigs as he was SO bad tempered!! And during the short time he gave up while with me I know this is VERY true...

Basically I'm looking for help - I've been reading this thread and can see how hard it is (its very similar to the weight loss one which I ALSO read a lot!!), and want to know how I can help. OH won't go to Dr for help and as I said, I don't want to keep going on about it as I know that that'll have the opposite effect!!

I hope you don't mind me asking, and good luck to everyone!!
