Hello from me! I reached one year quit last month, and am just popping in to wish all you new quitters lots of luck. This really CAN be done if you're truly determined to rid yourself of those nasty ciggies :j I rarely even think about smoking these days - and am soooo glad I'm not one of those poor folk huddled in doorways trying to keep a ciggie alive when the rain is pouring down and the wind is howling!

Day Two smoke free for me.

I think after eating is the worst time. If the weather was better I'd be outside & gardening but all this sitting about inside is hard but doing okay.

Congratulations AB and Pam on 2 years and 1 year respectively!!! :T :TThat's one heck of an achievement for you both! Wow, that seems an awful long time ago AB ....my how time flies, well done! You too have done marvellously Pam, you must both be so very proud of all you've achieved!!! Brilliant news and thanks so much for motivating everyone else, it does a power of good!

Well done hellnearth, on the good advice too!!;)

Good for you choille 2 days is great, and you've really mad e good start! After meals why not plough into the washing up straight away, clean your teeth or get on with a hobby. Doing something like that, away from wherever you used to smoke, starts to cut the thought/action process. Anything you can think of then go ahead and give it a try.

That's excellent news janiebaby!!! :T That's a great amount of progress, very well done! What a healthy pair you'll be if hubby can kick it too! Well done on booking the appointment. I wish you BOTH great success!!

Keep plugging away everyone, and for those still thinking it over, take the plunge and give it your best shot, you have nothing to lose and SO VERY MUCH to gain!!! Keep focused folks, you KNOW you can!

Way to go, Buddy - I'm so proud of you :D You are doing brilliant. I still sometimes miss the one after dinner too ( but not as much as the couple I had with coffee in the morning that was breafast.......YUUUUKKKK! )
I'm not using the inhalator now - it just kind of phased itself out - and I'm still getting I would say a couple of 'thoughts' a day. I think I've reduced my craving threat to thought level now as I kind of look at it from a distance now and I'm thinking " Oh, there's one of them cravings again. It'll pass in a minute."

SUE the fab supporter is right about having a replacement/distraction. The weather is still pretty yukky, huh? It was lovely and sunny here yesterday but freeeeeeeeziiiiiiiinnng!! How about going on one them gardening sites where you can build up a virtual garden? I'll have a look and see if I can find a link to one.

    Hi everyone,

I have just found this thread and am starting to wish I found it a few weeks ago. I'm feeling pretty peeved with myself right now. I quit smoking on the 6th of Jan (using patches) and managed 4 weeks quite well. For some reason I had a relapse and smoked for 4 days, then quit again on the 1st of Feb. Kids are on holiday half term (4 of them lol) done nothing but fight, bicker and argue, I have done nothing but shout and be a general grumpy horrible mum and hit the fags today, I am so Peed with myself.

This is so hard I don't know what to do now! Do I carry on smoking and set myself another quit day? or do I start a fresh tomorrow where I left off? I have no support as DH is a non smoker, and the eldest DS just tuts and shakes his head at me when I fail.

Hi Sue - Yeh - I'm finding keeping busy really helps. Today was better I think as I got outside for quite a while.

Hi Hellnearth - Yes the two fags & coffee for breakfast was me as well.
Got outdoors today for most of it - so that really helps a lot.
Great that you are weaned off the inhalator & are able to realise what is happening with your cravings & they are lessening - marvellous.

Emma - someone will be along soon with better advice - I'm a newbie - Day 3 smoke free.
I think you should stop tomorrow - have an early night, last ciggie & dump the rest in the fire, crumble them up what-ever. And tomorrow is a fresh start. If you set a new quit date you're maybe tricking yourself into allowing yourself to keep smoking. It'll be harder to stop the longer you've let yourself be back on the ole nicotine -I think.
    All the best with it.
And thanks all for all the wonderful support.

Day 3 Choille, well done you. That is brilliant. Emma, hun, it really is hard isn't it? It's a month today for me, but I'm being very careful not to let my guard down and praying that nothing too stressful happens, as that's a big trigger for me.
I'm with Choille - if you can grit your teeth and try again tomorrow while you've still got a bit of momentum it would be better. I've found on previous quits that the further down the slope I slide, the harder it is to claw my way back up again!!
4 weeks is really good going - have you been rewarding yourself for the time that you stayed stopped? Stash the money away and splurge on something nice for YOU - you deserve it :-)

I am literally fed up, don't mean to blame the kids they are just being kids, its me being weak. I just don't want to spend all their holiday shouting at them with steam coming out of my ears.

Are you all doing it off your own back or do you go to support groups?

I am going to read through some of these pages with a cuppa tomorrow, hopefully it will help.

Edited to ask each time i slip up does that mean I start from scratch, i.e back to day 1, with the patches and everything?

hellnearth - On Monday the day I stopped smoking - I lost my favourite lamb that night - one I'd hand reared. If I would of had ciggies to hand I would of smoked the packet & of course here there was no where at that time of night I could have got any.
I think you're really strong - keep your inhalator in case you have any problems & only maybe use it then? Hark at me - 3 days fag free & doling out advice - Who do I think I am?

    All the best.
