Hi all,
Had another successful weekend despite having a HUGE barney with my OH on Saturday. I'd normally use that as an excuse to go and buy a packet - and to be fair, I was quite close, but I didn't!
Just checking in really, hope everyone's still on track. Weekends were the worst for me during my last few quit attempts but they haven't been too bad recently.

Hi IWRS. I remember how worried you were when you first joined the thread, that quitting would be so difficult for you and look at you!!! :T
IWRS is a real inspiration for newbies. It can be done folks. Just got to get past those first few weeks and it's much more plain sailing after that.
Have a good smoke free week everyone. It has not crossed my mind in weeks really. I went to see a smoking friend yesterday and she had two while I was there. I tend to wear some old clothes when I go round that I can just bung in the machine when I get home.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Well done to everyone that is still smoke free.
I'm still finding it really easy to not smoke but I'm looking forward to stopping the tablets/ I've been a bit depressed whilst on them and they do not mix with alcohol well. I have 2 weeks left and I;m not sure whether to take them all or just stop next week. Hmm.
Choille - Hopefully your first day is going well, if you continue to feel sick on Champix maybe try and only take one per day? That might help.
OldReekie - Try to keep going, it does get easier in time.0 -
Hi all
Just had the most horrendous weekend in terms of stress. Won't bore you all with the details, but OMG did I want a cigarette. I also had a weird and very vivid dream the other night when I gave in and had a cigarette. After smoking it I felt so disgusted with myself. When I woke up and realised it had been a dream, I was so relieved!
So far I've gone through Xmas, New Year and various family events without giving in. Is it being stubborn that's keeping me going? I don't know, but I'm so chuffed. Hope this inspires others.0 -
Hi Jo jo - sorry to hear things aren't too good with you. I think that you need to go back to your GP & try and do something relaxing as a habit. Kalm tablets are quite good for times of stress & are herbal as is Bach's Rescue Remedy.
I've just smoked my (hopefully) last ciggie & I've just thrown the packet with 5 left over cigs in the stove, I threw in a packet of tabacco I found earlier & I've washed the ashtray. I'm going to brush my teeth & have an early night.
All the best everyone - thanks for being here.Low Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs

Hello everyone
Neenie_o - last year, when I attempted to give up, I often dreamed I was smoking but the worst experience I had was lying awake at 2.00am and imagining going downstairs, making a cup of tea and chain smoking a pack of 20! I was very nasty to my OH for about 6 weeks.....and it was not a dream! Much better to just dream all the bad stuff; work it out in the subconscious.
Well, it is day 2 and I am struggling. The patches do not seem to be helping and the inhalator just makes me cough. Water, fruit, hypnotherapy CD, whale music~ I have tried them all for the past 2 days but the craving is just getting worse. I have lists of positive incentives posted around the house and am doing the deep breathing but cannot concentrate on anything. There is a list of things to do, sitting in front of me, but ......sorry cannot find the words to describe this
I hate the way that stopping smoking takes over the head, leaving little room for more important thoughts.
Sorry!Low Carb High Fat is the way forward I lost 80 lbs

Hi everyone, I haven't read all of the pages I'm afraid, there's faaaar too many to be reading at this hour. I'm quitting smoking in a couple of weeks (I've been given a couple of weeks grace to enjoy my holiday first!)
I've tried before and failed so this time I am being sponsored to do it for charity. Over four weeks and I get money for each week. I know that if I am tempted to smoke then the fact that I will feel like I am stealing from a very worthwhile charity by losing that week's money will kick in. I was just wondering as I'm not doing it until a couple of week's time is there anything I could maybe do in the meantime to prepare? Useful websites/quitting aids etc?
Thanks very much in advance and a massive well done to all of you who are already on the way and have succeeded I hope I have the same strength as you do! Good luck to everyone too who is stubbing them out!0 -

Very well done indeed oldreekie!! 3 days in is brilliant news, and is a long way already when you consider how long you've been smoking! Great news indeed!

Hi inca and a very warm welcome aboard. Well, you certainly have a lot to live up to and I sincerely hope it's the motivation you need to finally conquer it. I'll send you a PM in a moment, that may help, but if you also read through the pages you'll find you can gain so much from all that's written by people like you....those who are quitting or who have done!
Wonderful news about everyone! You're all doing so well with many of you having come a long way. Keep if up ALL, you know you CAN do this and win the battle!

Welcome aboard :j The more, the merrier.:j You wouldn't go far wrong by reading a few pages of this thread every day for your two weeks pre-quit. There's loads of tips, advice links etc and it is really interesting to see what is happening with people at the different stages of a quit. The charity/sponsored quit is a brilliant idea. I think it's lovely that it won't be just you who is benefitting from kicking the habit.
My little bit of 'training' advice. Try to go longer between fags i.e. don't give in to the craving straight away. See how you feel and how long can you go - and is there anything you can do to distract yourself? Time youself and see if you can make it longer each time between fags.
See you after your holiday ...........and enjoy!New CC starting balances for 2014: BC: £2780.00 (2717.45) MBNA: £2185.72 (2160.72)
