Sue Yes - Rescue Remedy is good - I forgot about that. I have some & will use it.
    Ameliarate - Great stuff.
I last had a ciggie last Sunday night & the cravings are not that many now.
I started taking the Champix about three weeks ago.
Good that you are confident - I wish I was. I'm just taking it one day at a time & thankful I'm not near a shop!

Hey, fellow quitters, how ya all doin? Really good by all accounts. Choille you are doing so, so well - way to go :j :j I felt the same as you about the NRT but the counsellor said not to worry about getting hooked on it or feel that it was a cop out - I didn't use the inhalator enough before and couldn't put up with the cravings. To me, the time with the NRT support is the time to break the habit/routine side of the addiction which can be as strong as the nicotine addiction.
Oldreekie, I thought I would still be missing my 2 fags/2 coffees routine in the morning but it has actually passed. Instead of the fags, I sat down with a pad and a pen and made lists - things to do, menus etc. Anything to try and maintain a semblance of order as my brain seemed to be foggy mush!!
I'd review and redo my lists every morning and it did seem to help.
I had very strong cravings for a fag last night. I've still got the horrible flu or whatever it is and went to the doctors on Thursday cos I started getting dizzy spells when I get up or move my head significantly. Turns out I've got labyrinthitus which is bloomin awful :-(
My non-smoking spaced outness had passed and I was feeling great, now I've got this dizzy spaced outness. I felt quite down last night and was very tempted to have a fag - my stress reliever of old.
I had a good blub instead and am feeling a bit better about it today.

Ha ha I only THINK I am confident.

I am NEVER going through this again so I either stop or have to smoke for the rest of my life.

It's actually getting easier - I think. When I tried to cut down I was fixated on cigarettes. I think this is easier than cutting down.
I'm not thinking about 'never again', I'm telling myself I just won't smoke 'today'.
I know it's the same thing but it's how you kid yourself along in a way - well that's how I'm doing it.

Hellnearth - that's terrible. I'm so sorry. It's hellish. You must get some Vit B6.
I think these cravings come on strong when we're a bit down - stealthy busterds that they are.
You must take it easy & if that means lying flat then do. I did that one afternoon when I just felt rough. Do what it takes & really treat yourself well.
Funny how we stop smoking for our health then get ill - as if they are having a laugh.
I've had the acid reflux indigestion thing for the last couple of nights about 3am.

Hope you are soon feeling much better & remember you are doing really well - over a month fag free. An odd strong craving when you are feeling down is a trial that you've passed.
I'm glad the weather is still a bit rubbish in a way as I'm being pretty lazy & not putting myself under pressure ( apart from trying to install a firewall thingy & ending up screaming at someone on the end of a phone) I even scare myself sometimes - what with the hormones going a bit haywire I'm a right wee unpredictable firework methinks!)
  • Hey all, long time since I've been online as I have been off work with swine flu. Just my luck, they close the hotline on the Wednesday and I fall ill on the Thursday.

Still going and starting to feel a lot better now after 14 weeks clear. Finally seem to be starting to shake off the general feeling crap sensation I was having, seems I have finally beaten it this time.

Hope the rest of you are all doing OK, keep up the good work and I will carry on looking in on you all and hopefully will be able to help some of you the way others on here have helped me.

Hi again ameliarate,it really is wonderful to see you! Never mind about not being able to make it first time, you're back again and feeling good about it and THAT'S the important thing! Though you're still getting cravings throughout the day, the nicotine will have left your system after the 3rd, it's now the head cravings you need to get to grips with, but you can do it by doing plenty of exercise or at least getting a good, brisk walk in each day. Don't forget apples take a good while to eat, so time's taken up there, so are cravings, same with peeling and eating oranges, it keeps your hands occupied and your mind more focused. Remember "feedumall" and her ice poles, they did wonders for her. Take up a new or old hobby.... anything at all, it all helps us at such times. Take deep and slow breaths and concentrate on each of them. I wish you all the very best ameliarate, and I do so hope this will be the time you conquer it!!

Congratulations on your first week free choille!!! You've achieved that first and very vital whole week and it's all down to you - brilliant!!! Get a bottle of Gaviscon from the chemist and have a dose before you go to bed, it'll free you from the acid reflux indigestion.

Good to see you're still going well hellnearth and wonderful news that you've stopped for a month now!!! Sorry to hear about you still feeling rough. The Doc's diagnosis of Labyrinthitus is something to do with the ear - yes? If so, no wonder you've felt light-headed. I hope you soon feel much better.

Hi chevettehs and very well done indeed having gone for 14 weeks!! :T It certainly sounds as though you're beating it, but keep up the brilliant work for a full year before being absolutely certain, it's a real sense of having cracked it when that year date come up and you'll feel terrific!! :j Any time you're able to come on here and help then please do, we can certainly use the help chevs!

Have a wonderful week all, enjoy the beginnings of a fresh week ahead from today onwards.

Hi everyone! Just checking in to wish you all a happy and healthy smoke free week.

The only time I think of smoking these days is when I see this thread on my subscribed list! After about 10 months I do feel free of this chemical at last.

Looking out of my window, it is a grey horrible rainy and drizzly day - it must be ghastly to have to go outside to get a fix. That is all it is too, a fix. Nicotine promises so much yet delivers virtually nothing but smelliness, guilt and worry.

Keep going, it gets so much easier. :)

    Sue

Thanks Sue, I am taking it day by day, armed with apples and sugar free gum. The dog is loving it because she is getting extra walks.

My daughter is home next weekend from uni for a couple of days. I haven't told her yet as I want to be a full week free of the evil weed before I get her hopes up.

choille you are right, I was doing it hour by hour now feel confident enough to talk about day by day. I am getting some nausea with the champix but will keep taking it for now as it is not too bad.

    Hi all fellow non-smokers!

Just reporting in to say that I've passed the 3 month mark:

    Smober time: 3M 1D 14H 10M
    Amount not spent: £570.70 (!!!!!!!!!!!!)
    Number not smoked: 1,871 (omg!!!!!!!)

Don't think about wanting to smoke at all - doesn't cross my mind, ever. Saw someone smoking in a car this morning and just thought - what a weird thing to do. No wheezing, no coughing, jogging now 40 minutes, clothes and house completely smoke-free, skin and eyes looking brighter. And the money saving is amazing.

Thanks to everyone here, especially Sue, for all the encouragement and advice in the early days.

    Keep it up everyone :T:T:T
