Two weeks, six days, 15 hours, 34 minutes and 55 seconds.
619 cigarettes not smoked,
saving £151.77.
Life saved: 2 days, 3 hours, 35 minutes.
Come nine o'clock tonight it's three whole weeks.
Thank to all of you who on here as it does make a difference, thanks to Sue especially.
Started at the gym again on Wednesday, in absolute agony yesterday and today but adamant as well as not smoking I will get myself somewhere back towards being fit again. Long way from when I was fit enough for the Marines, lol. But will continue to try.Smoke free since November 2009.

Well done chevettehs!!! You're one week (less two hours) ahead of me. Well done for going to the gym!
I used to be a competitive triathlete but haven't put my running shoes on for about 7 years. I went for a jog this morning (had to search around for my old running shoes and eventually found them in the back of a cupboard) - it was a triumph of determination over breathlessness, but I managed 15 minutes, then walked briskly for another 15 minutes.
I've noticed the whites of my eyes are looking whiter. They were quite yellow in the past year but I hadn't associated it with smoking. Or perhaps it's not drinking alcohol at all for the past fortnight? Or the vast quantities of tap water being drunk? Has anyone else noticed this?

TY MO2 !
You'll get it back DC, I'm sure of it. You just need the right moment or day and something will click! Let's be honest - you wouldn't keep coming here at all if you didn't WANT to quit so it's just getting the timing correct....and you'll be chuffed to bits that you're trying again! Don't mistake what I've written for gentle bullying as it's not that at all, I promise you! I just remember what it was like for me, and t appears the same! One of these days it will happen!
Congratulations on three whole weeks without smoking chevettehs!!! :T It's a long time chev and you DID it! I'll bet you're so very proud of your success too! :j Having trained for the Marines you know all too well that with a lot of effort and determination you'll soon get your body back in trim. You'll soon feel as though you're almost a completely different person. Keep it up chev and very well done!!!
It's the same with you MumOf2! You've obviously exercised hard in the past (didn't we all before we smoked ) and are itching to get back to where you were, and could be again! You did very well yesterday, the same again today and you'll soon have yourself built up and feeling great!! :j With regards to the whites of your eyes, I wouldn't be surprised if it's all 3 things. We need water in every cell of our bodies and smoking makes almost all parts of us yellow, alcohol can have the same affect too! So without doing the 2 bad and with doing the 1 good continuously it's bound to have a huge affect!!! Giving your kidneys a good flushing through is bound to have a great affect on you all over and the more toxins removed from your liver the better you're going to be! It all makes sense to me, but ask your Dr or Nurse when you go next.
Paul, you're so right about larmy, she's a really good influence - even to me! Somebody has to be after all!!
Take great care everyone, keep strong and have a lovely weekend!

It was so great to hear from LittleLilly, Tattycath, Paul and Joop. So inspiring for us all.
I especially remember LittleLilly as she was struggling with the same problem as myself, in that we were secret smokers - possibly the worst of all smoking scenarios.
She was a couple of months ahead of me, but it was seeing that she was "doing it" that definitely spurred me on. After all she says in her post that if she can do it then anyone can.
I could never have done it without this thread though. It was coming back and reading about everyones experiences, successes and the odd slip up, that kept me focussed on being smoke free finally and forever this time!!!

Hi everyone hope you are all well
Well im 9 hours off of being smoke free for 2 weeks and i never thought i would be this excited about not having a cig! :j
Also to day is the first day that i have not had to put a patch on or use my inhalator!!!:T Although im guessing this is a one off and will have to use them again but im just going to enjoy this day while it lasts
My big test will be next week, im off to lanzarote and you can smoke anywhere you like but i will not let that tempt me (i hope).
Well done to everyone else keep up the good work :T

Congratulations on two whole weeks without smoking (well, it will be when you read this) Beaney!!!! :T :j So many of us know just what that excitement feels like, so we know just how chuffed and proud you are right now! We also know that the further you go the greater that feeling is!! So many who use patches say they either forget them after a while or they don't want/need to use them, so see how it goes and how you're feeling, but just don't assure yourself you really don't need them if part of you believes you do! Listen to your body, it knows best!
You're right about Lanzarote being a test, but you don't have to stay around anyone who's smoking. Just walk away and use the deep breathing techniques and let yourself know just how disappointed you'd be IF you lapsed - which I'm sure you won't!!! Paul ("sar050680") endured the same test when he went to Portugal (I think) or Algarve with his GF and her parents who all smoked. He too was very concerned - but he came back delighted that he'd survived it all and he was so very proud. Be luck Paul, Beaney - stay clean and think of your health!!! You still have time until you go. You CAN steer clear of it, you know you can!!!
All the best everyone, please stay strong and keep smoke-free!

i have got 6 cigarettes left in my packet, and I am determined to make those 6 my last :T
I have tried and failed a couple of times over the past 18 months, I have tried patches (got an allergic reaction to the adhesive), champix (couldn't handle the nightmares and sweats), cold turkey... you name it I have tried it
So the masterplan this time around is a two pronged attack of Allen Carr's "Easy Way" book (already half way through) and Max Kirsten's mp3 which I have just downloaded from amazon, if it works it will be the best fiver I have spent this month!
Have loads of reasons for stopping, but apart from the obvious money side of things, I have just started playing football again, had my debut for a new team a couple of weeks ago and only managed 30 minutes due to being so breathless, and played in my second game yesterday and didn't fair much better
So in the immortal words of Michael Jackson... "This is it!" :TProud to be dealing with my debts

Hi Bruce and a warm welcome to the healthiest thread on MSE!!
I see you've had many attempts and variations of quitting smoking - but then so had most of us - until we found the right time and right attitude in which to face it. Many, many people have sworn by Allen Carr's books, tapes etc...and succeeded!! I know nothing about Max Kirsten's mp3, but if either or both work for you then it would be marvellous!
I know you've said that a main reason to quit is the money side of it, but think mostly about your health and how great you'd feel playing football, climbing stairs or just walking briskly. It's not long at all before you start freeing your lungs from all the muck and rubbish they've been choked up with over the years! You'll soon find so many health benefits that you hadn't even realised were affecting you - until you've given up for 2 or more weeks! If you really enjoy football then you've got a brilliant sport to really spur you on to quit and stay that way! Go on Bruce, think of those words of Michael Jackson if you have a weak moment and read the Allen Carr's book as much as you need to. Keep your mind and hands focused, take up a new hobby at home, go to the gym...any thing that you think will help - and drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fruit as the fuller you feel the less likely you are to even crave a cig.
All the very best on your journey to being a new you, the one you were before you started that awful habit!!! If you think it'll help, check in at your Drs and see the cessation Nurse as going there once a week is great motivation, as will reading through this thread. "This is it!" Bruce!!! :j :T

Hiya Bruce.
Welcome to the thread and all the very best to you. While you finish those 6 cigis, why not add in the mirror aversion. Force yourself to smoke while watching yourself in the mirror! This can really bring home to sheer madness of smoking.
Sounds like you have a good plan with the Allan Carr book and the mp3. I tried so many times but it was this thread and seeing everyone else succeeding that launched me to my final quit.
Also Sue who manages to be a cheer leader and wise advisor all at once is so helpful in keeping you on course. YAY - another smoke free week ahead. It's grim outside, dark and drizzly but there is always something to celebrate!
Have a good week all.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
