Fitroy Puzzledbubbles mentioned going out into the freezing cold to have your fix. Well why not take a mirror as well and see the truth about smoking and how crazy it makes us!:)

I used to do like you as well. I could go away for a week, not smoke (I was a secret smoker) who was also deeply ashamed of smoking, and then light up the instant my feet got through the front door.

I don't think there are any hints and tips when it comes to stopping, you just have to stop. Gaining weight is another thing. I did gain weight but mostly because I have a sweet addiction too. Thing is at the moment I am not too worried about that either - I probably gained about ten pounds and though I would like to be rid of it, at the moment it does not seem like a high priority. I just want to relax for a while and accept me as me, even if I am a little tubby!:D

They're things to 'play' with to help distract you. I've never had one to fully know the benefits, but have had good things from others. Have a look here and you'll find Tangles and other play things, to help keep the fingers and mind a little more distracted, on the same page.

    Good luck.

All I can say I have never enjoyed smoking a single fag,for me it is a habit of regularly sticking something in your gob, which I usuallly stub out half way down. I think I have a habit not a nicotine addiction.

I reckon you're right Denis. Why not get something to act fill the gap of the dreaded fags you don't like anyway? Not sure what, apart from a pipe or something of that nature....without baccy in!!! That must have been a fantastic quit before though when living as you do, you did superbly! At least now you have larmy's thoughts on Zyban. All the best for yet another, and hopefully, the final quit Denis, just don't ever be tempted again and keep reminding yourself how you never enjoyed enjoyed a fag anyway! All best wishes for a fag-free future!

You're welcome yorkshirekev the least I could do.

larmy I'll certainly keep you in mind in future where Zyban's concerned. I always remember Naomi mostly for Champix, she's done so well! BTW. Very well done on your extra weight loss, your way of viewing any gained too! Far better doing that than to keep smoking because of your weight, yet being so furious and fearful you're putting your health at risk if you hadn't quit. The weight can always still be worked on, whereas we don't always get second chances with our health!

With regards me being an angel??? Nah! I'd just love it for every 'smoking' person to be as free as I am from it all, you and so many others here too! It was the fear of not being able to manage without it that kept me from doing it years ago..... how misguided I was! Please don't anyone not quit because they're worried about how they'll cope, it's a total misconception I promise you! You become liberated almost straight away. Face the (presumed) fear...and ditch the fags!

I second that. The fear is the big bogeyman trying to stop you quitting. Stopping when you have put your mind to it is actually the easy part. It is the fear and the indecision that makes it more difficult.

Somehow you have to tune in to the part of the brain (that is completely on your side) and use that single mindeness to aid you. Fear of being with out the illusory crutch of nicotine took me back time and time again. The realisation that the crutch was a total projection on my part, finally allowed me to look nicotine in the face and kick it to the kerb.

The freedom from slavery to such a poison can never be equalled and never taken for granted either. It is such a relief to find you truly never needed the crutch and it was all in your mind.

Well said Sue - that's exactly how I feel - I just want everyone else to realise that quitting can be easy and not as difficult as we all thought/feared.

I'm the same -since stopping 4 months back just kicking myself why I didn't do it earlier.

All the benefits - more money, time (no more inventing excuses to nip out for a cigarette), health and loads more energy to do the things I want to do. Really enjoying getting fit again - walking, cycling, swimming etc - think its becoming an addiction :rotfl:

To anybody just starting to quit - it is well worth it and there's loads of help available - if one thing doesn't work for you another will.

    Hi everyone

Just a flying visit before I go to do the food shop!

Great to see everyone is doing well and still smokefree:j

Hubby and I are still going strong, day 65, and no longer using patches:j
we stopped using them about 2 weeks ago, mainly because we kept forgetting to put them on and also because we didnt want to be dependant on them. It was quite scary at first not wearing them because we thought that we would crave and end up giving in but I can honestly say it never bothered us..... (touches wood)........

We are a much happier house now that we are smokefree, loads more energy and lots more cash!!!

Keep up the good work everyone!!!
    Quit Day - 8th July 2009.

I agree completely with all you've said larmy, you too allthatmularky. Far better to go for it whilst we can than worry about fears that never happen anyway.

You've done brilliantly allthatmularky. :T I know what you mean about having regrets, but better we did it as we did than never at all or....until it was maybe too late!!

Very well done Niki! :T 4 days is a great achievement so keep up what you're already doing and stay strong at all times! You're on the journey of your life and should be so very proud!

Marvellous news about you both Kezza!!:T:T I'm thrilled for you that things are so much easier now you're unhooked from the weedy stuff.....yuk! I think I can imagine how easy it must become to forget about the patches....I'm miles away from by brain at the best of times so just as well I never chose patches I s'pose!:o

Keep up the great work and stay strong throughout!
