Thanks everyone, it was only a fleeting feeling of wanting a cig anyway, it didn't last too long and I know I have a lot to lose if I ever succomb (see sig). It's just one of those things to expect in times of stress I suppose, I had the same urge for a glass of wine and didn't do that either.
On a lighter note, the kids have decided they want to get another cat straight away so we're off kitten hunting at rescue centres this weekend.Well I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by
Just want to be...Happy0 -
To provide some encouragement to everyone trying to give up the dreaded weed, here's a really catchy, cool and witty song about the travails of quitting; it's called 'the quitting smoking song' by Princess Superstar...Recognise any of the sentiments?!

Hi all just reading through some of this thread and thought I'd leave a few words on my way. Had my last ciggie on Tuesday and although I've had minutes where I could have eaten a fag I've stuck to my guns. Problem is I've done this a few times before and always go back for some reason or other :-( . This time I'm more determined to quit for GOOD everytime I feel the need I take a minute and I picture things I'm gonna buy out of the money I save:) Hopefully I will not look back, thanks to all for posting, its really inspiring...
Good luck, Paul.:cool:0 -
Well, after a few busy days and skim reading this thread, I'm pleased to say I'm now on day 2 of quitting.
The quit nurse tried her hardest to persuade me to go with champix, but with other problems I have, would have meant seeing the doc first and to be honest, reading bits about it put me off (not just here, I hasten to add). So, I'm on high dose patches and check back with her in 2 weeks. Doing the blow thingy gave me a bit of a shock - I got 39 and she said that's equal to about 7% carbon monoxide in me. Ages ago I got some of the free nicorette inhalers so keep those strategically placed to chew on when at the pc, reading, writing etc as I tended to smoke more at these times.
So far, so good though. Cravings aren't too bad and I think I've equipped myself as well as possible for any real weak moments. I've put the card that came with the patches in my purse (both paper and coin side) should I end up thinking of buying any. I've also put a copy of Alan Carr's mini book in my handbag for "emergencies" when out and his main book sits on my coffee table. I've decided to make both my car and home non-smoking this time around too.
I'll get to reading this thread for more ideas very soon!0 -
Well done Bluedog and to all others that are doing so well at the moment.

I am so ready to join this gang! Realised I didn't have any real reason to actually stay smoking so took myself to get some NRT today. Got step2 patches from boots, and have to go back next week to get more and discuss how I am getting on. 7 hours in and counting!Lynzie Lou :dance:0

Hi everyone! Well, I'm back to help if possible. We (hubs & I) had an urgent plea to help youngest offspring with renovations, but all's done now so here I am!
Hi Naomi! Many congratulations to you on that terrific news of having quit for 4months 2 days (plus now!) and what an amount you've saved!!! :T I do hope your
DH can make it through this time Naomi, please wish him well from me.
It's so good to see faces who are still so determined to quit once and for all, good to see other new faces with exactly the same desires - to quit and STAY quit!!! Like everyone else, I wish each and everyone of you all the very best to achieve your dream....and you WILL if you focus on that finishing line! It's a wonderful journey when you know you're starting on your way to completely cleanse yourselves of all the harm that could have come your way IF you hadn't decided to quit! So keep battling on and vent your feelings on here whenever you feel like it, likewise let us know if you're doing well - AND when you've reached the time when you know you've made it!!
However good your feel about your success - please don't ever be drawn into believing you might just be able to risk having "just one puff" because it only ever puts people back to square one and that's an awful feeling when you know that if only you hadn't listened to that horrid voice within, you'd be feeling so very proud of yourself!
Re the sleeplessness and bad/weird dreams....it is short-lived so just do all you can to settle yourselves before bed time. Have a long relaxing bath/shower, then a mug of hot chocolate. If you're going to read then make it light reading, not anything likely to leave the mind disturbed or thoughtful. Don't attempt to go to sleep if you're too hot after a shower/bath, allow your body the time to cool down. If necessary then go to your local Pharmacy and get some "Kalms", they're very good.
I can't emphasise enough the benefits of water! Drink plenty, especially so if when you get cravings. It also helps you against putting on weight. Fruit is wonderful and has the same benefits as water, and large apples take a time to eat so you can have a good few of those per day and fill the craving gaps, as well as filling yourselves up. The fuller you feel the less likely you are to fancy one of those evil little blighters!!!
Lastly, get plenty of exercise! That can even mean doing so indoors with stairs, exercise dvds or making up your own aerobic routines. In the evenings find something to do that keeps your hands occupied, take up a new hobby/craft, there's plenty out there.
All the very best everyone, jo1972 did a brilliant job of starting the first thread and she succeeded and encouraged so many others to do so AND win!! Do yourselves proud and join all the other successful members of both threads, there are plenty of them, and YOU could add your names to the hall of quitters fame! NEVER think negative thoughts - push them away and recall beautiful memories to flood your minds. How about photo albums to go through too!
Press on everybody, you know you CAN win this!
