The Giving Up Smoking Thread!! Part 2

I bought some patches today and....... my partner is going to give up with me, which will be a great help. I may try the Zyban and although I realise not all side effects affect all people, I'm not prepared to chance it.
Good luck everybody!0 -
I found apples and iced water work wonders when you have cravings on the patches.
I have to admit, I am missing the social aspect of smoking. Think that's doing me in more than anything. All my other colleagues are nipping out for a smoke, whilst muggins is doing all the work.
but anyhoo, another day...
The practise nurse, who we had to consult for 2 visits before NRT or Zyban was prescribed, recommended drinking lots of water. She was an ex-smoker herself - her husband was still smoking!!! How's that for rock-solid?
Regarding the social side, Mazza111, a few minutes deep Yoga type breathing, fresh air is best, often helps and you should be feeling just a smidge superior to your fag-ash colleagues. Nicotine addiction is supposed to be harder to break than heroin addiction. Now I can't confirm that but I'm happy my clothes and hair don't reek of stale smoke anymore. I'm going to try your suggestion about the apples - I must lose about 24lbs!! As you say, another day......0 -
Hi everyone
Just popped in to say still going strong! Have now gone onto the lozenges and these work a treat for me. OH tried them but couldn't put up with the texture of them but I find them to be ok. Great for the morning when cravings are stronger. Keep going everybody.0 -
5 weeks \o/
Feel it's getting harder now though, think it's all in my head though. weird eh?4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Thought I'd just check in before going away to The Lakes tomorrow for a few days. Weather forecast keeps changing ... looks pretty abysmal there at the moment, still it's getting away that counts I always think.
Doing fine, but went out and had a bit of a "session" last Saturday. Watched my friends go outside for a ciggie and felt envious and proud at the same time for not joining them. If my partner hadn't been with me, I'd have been sorely tempted to join them I know
Know what you mean mazza ... it should get easier and, in a lot of ways it does, but I still get moments when I could really do with one and feel momentarily deprived and depressed that I can't have one. I also find myself imagining that I can be one of those rare people that can smoke a couple of fags a week with a drink and not miss it for the rest of the time ... sometimes thinking that, even if I did miss it, it would be worth it to enjoy the company of my "old friend" for a few minutes. I know ... it's all rubbish and my mind playing tricks .
I constantly remind myself that it's not even two months though yet and, after smoking for over 30 years, giving up is hardly going to be a walk in the park.
Anyway, I shouldn't be tempted while I'm away ... my partner is a confirmed non-smoker and it'll be good to have a change of scenery, even if the weather means we can't do much walking!
Well done all and keep going

Have a lovely time MimiJane, fingers crossed for dry weather for you.
I had a stressful situation and at no point did it cross my mind to reach for ciggies. My dad taken into hospital yesterday. Had it been some months ago I would have been one of those people standing outside A&E doors puffing away. Pleased about that. Ticked another one off my list!0 -
