    Debt-free and Proud!
After months of lurking and falling off the wagon in spectacular style I really need to sort myself out. I've not posted for ages as I've felt so ashamed that I seem unable to stick to anything I say I will.....ie AF days I get to wino'clock and think oh well one won't hurt and then one leads to two etc etc.

I don't know why I've decided to post again today, but I do know that the only time I've managed to stay AF in recent times is when I've been on here.

So here I go again if you'll have me, no promises of an AF day, but one small step at a time

Hope everyone is doing well, Im off to read back through the posts for inspiration :D

    Please can i join?
I've been reading this thread for a while always thinking that i've not got a problem.........but i do!
I binge drink to the point that i make a fool of myself, my mates always manage to laugh it off and i do but inside i'm dying and cringing at myself. I ruined Monday (day off) with just being able to lie on the settee and feel sorry for myself. I've had a couple of falls and have now started injuring myself. I can go through the week without drinking then when i do get the opportunity to drink i go mad. I'm a single mum and don't want my little one picking up habits (bad ones) from me. I want him to enjoy life not be embarrassed by his mum.
How do you all socialise without drinking? everyone i know drinks and that's the social part of my life, i need some motivation!
  • Welcome back Mari ..... Spring is the time for giving up and cutting down - I feel it in my bones :D

Welcome Maz123, not sure on how to answer your question of how to socialize without, as I'm an unsociable git and don't really drink outside the home. No doubt some of the others can answer that but I know that if I drink when I'm out with others I normally end up saying things I shouldn't. Just wanted to wish you luck, you are in the best place.

I have been to the doctors this morning. I stopped my antidepressants last week after they changed the one I was on and the new one did not suit. I'm now back on a small dose of the old one which seemed to be working .... I have no idea why they wanted to change it - just two different doctors opinions I guess.

I also came away with a couple of weeks worth of diazapam which I know a lot of people will cringe at ... being yet another addictive substance. The idea was that as I am now on my 10th day alcohol free, to fall back on to the sedatives if the stress get too much and take them for a day, as to not fall back onto the beer. I don't want to take them, but will If I feel I am going to hit the booze. I have to say though at the moment I don't feel the need. I got through the stress at the weekend so I feel I am now in a good position.

Pariskate - Yep best £150 ever spent - we did have a cheaper one last year it only cost £70 - like a 3 foot deep paddling pool 12 feet across - plenty of room to relax, and destress :D We decided that it was so much fun that we upgraded to a deeper and wider pool. Well worth the beer money :D. Last summer I was coming home from work and having a swim instead of heading for the fridge first.

Budget Babe - Where have you gone - please come back ;)

Molly - thanks its nice to be back :j

    Everyone Else :hello:

    Best Wishes

Jon, glad to hear the appointment went well and you've sorted your mortgage, that must be a huge weight off of your shoulders. Good luck for the next few weeks :)

FUAS, sorry to hear you're not feeling too good, hope you feel better soon x

    Eselt, hope the tooth's better?

BHB, yeah yeah, you've got a heated full size pool in your yard haven't you....with whirlpool attached, you do jest!! :D

Congrats on the AFD WB :D

Dot, well done on tackling your weaknesses! But, all 3 at the same time   good luck :D

FB, enjoy the holiday whilst you can and don't beat yourself up, it'll soon be time to get back into the routine

Happee, welcome to the thread and good luck giving up/cutting down :)

Maman, hope you enjoyed your holiday! :)

Kate, so glad you are feeling the fantastic effects of being sober! Keep it up!! :)

Mari, good to have you back, I don't know if you've read back through the posts yet but as you can see I am the prime example of on/off/on/off/on/off etc etc, really quite embarrassing but if I don't post then I'm sure I'll spiral out of control! At least I'm having more AFD's since I joined this thread than I ever did! Good luck and stick with it :)

FB, I can thank people but still can't see other people's avatars which is really frustrating when people talk about them and I can't see it! I've emailed the techy people and they are looking at it for me, so it might be worth you emailing them?

Maz, welcome to the thread and good luck in your giving up/cutting down endeavours :)

BHB, just read your latest message whilst typing my one, sorry but I gotta say no to the diazpam, it's not the addictiveness that worries me 'that much', but the fact that it really won't do anything to help you apart from making you spaced out, everything stays the same, triggers etc.. I think we've (and that's a royal we!) have just got to learn to deal with the reasons of why we drink or at least why we want to and try not to disguise it with something else. You have done so amazingly well, you've proved you don't need alcohol to survive, now you've got to allow yourself to accept the fact. Morning btw  :)

However, WE need to change. We have to, otherwise we will be craving booze all the time, to escape ourselves and our problems.
If you change yourself, then you will not have the compulsion to drink - your life becomes much more manageable.

Please please tell me how to do that??

I drank last night, I seem to be having a one on/one off thing going on recently. I've noticed as well that I've not been as upset about my drinking days over the past 2 weeks as I've been off work and slept in a lot later. If I had to get up at 6.45am then I'd be feeling it and downing the resolve as soon as I open my eyes.

    I won't be drinking today.
