  • Hi there
been here since 2000 then went south for a couple years then back in 2005

Doesnt take too much getting use to - we have couple supermarkets, a boots and a lot of local shops - but NO fast food places.

    Mega shop http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=19905327&postcount=60

If you want a nosey the link to the current list is here - thinking will spend about £300 quid (ish) on food stocks wiht any Ikea disasters, cclothes etc probably will budget for 400 quid in total. I only get on the mainland (with a car) maybe once or twice a year

We like it here very much - its quite a vibrant place to live about 20,000 people, 15 flights in and out a day and 3 ferry companies operate to here (4-6 sailings a day) - but its basically got no crime, the schools are fantastic and the way of life is wonderful - almost like having hte internet etc but going back maybe 20-30 years.

My kids don't have mobiles (well we have one emergency house one) - they can go out to the cinema, down town or just swimming or wander around anywhere and I wouldn't be worried about them in the slightest (which is really nice)

I dont lock my house or my car normally. Its just different. I like that we don't have shops open 24/7 (or petrol stations) and that mostly nothing except a couple supermarkets are open on sunday.

Its got its down sides - its expensive to get onto the mainland and I am a very long way from just about everyone I know (no family here or really any pals - only know one or two folk outwith work) but I like the way of life for the kids. (and me)

ps ta the dialougue is helping xx

I love the sound of your lifestyle Fay :D What I wouldn't give to not worry about the kids.Mine are all older now [in their 20's] my youngest a girl is 20 but my 'boys' are the ones who have given me sleepless nights. They are lovely young men as are their friends but if they go into town for a night out I hate it so much. Both of them have been attacked by drunks while on their way home and they are just 2 of many I know of. I hate living in this town now - and I was born here when it was such a lovely place to live. In 2 or 3 years we will be getting out of here and I just can't wait

    Evening Fay

Well done on resisting those wine bells.

Have to admit, life on Orkney sounds idyllic. I quite like the idea of shops actually SHUTTING of a night! And to not have to worry about crime must be lovely. Sometimes it seems life is just far too full on. Be nice to have a slower pace of life.

Well, I'm on anti-biotics again so no wine bells for me! Feeling rough is a great was to stop drinking!

    Miss P
    xx

Questions like this should be directed to those in the medical profession as well as a forum.
My opinion is no more valid than a man on the streets, but it seems to me your wife has alcoholism (which I believe to be a disease) and the key symptom of alcoholism is not being able to stop drinking.
This will make her dishonest, and she is not being deliberately like this - she is ill.
Just support her in her efforts to get better, but be aware that if she doesn't want to stop drinking, then there is nothing you can do.

I've had no time to get on here at all and wanted to reply to Oz's post all day, but GC has said pretty much what I was going to :T :T :T :T

Oz, you may be finding it really difficult to cope with and I admire your support :A but I'll bet everything I have that half the time she doesn't even realise how 'deceitful' she's being. Good luck to you both, have a read back of the thread and the old one (link on 1st post) and see how the 'other side' feels to get an idea of what's going through her head :)

Gotta go, sorry....oh AF tonight by the way :D

Kudzu definately doing nothing for me :(

  • I know this is absolutely pathetic but its only 10 mins to go and means I have made another afd - woo hoo - it is getting harder.

I am back to sabbotaging myself like a two year old. Its so stupid. You are all right - one drink is never enough and 1000 too many

    Thanks for 'being' there xx

  • HI jo and Miss P - hope you are both well xx Well done on the AF

With my Obsessive compulsive nature I think I need the shops to shut as well.

Lots of good posts today I was hoping one of the good thoughtful posters would put something nice up for Oz - all I can really say is Hi and Hugs - not much really xx
