GP fully understand what you mean; hope I've not been too previous removing you from the list (every little helps....). I'll miss your posts though so pls do pop in sometimes - good luck with the parachute jump!!!!
Beachbeth hi I'm really sorry to hear about your dog - they leave such a gap. This might not be what you want to hear right now but if you're in a position to, get another. Some years ago I had cats as in full-time work so could not have a dog & my favourite (called Rova, cos I wanted her to be a dog really!) was run over & I was devastated (straight back on the fags after 18 months smoke-free, cos 8 a.m. seemed too early for a gin, back then...) & anyway, a short while later I was "found" by a stray like it was meant to be & it helped so much. It might seem disloyal but there are so many out there needing homes. I'd have 5 if I could!!!!
Jo well done - I thought, as you said, the seed was planted & you did so well to turn it round like that :T0 -
Cheers WB. I really do feel like I've changed my attitude to drinking radically. Feel very upbeat about the weightloss, and I even went back to he climbing wall in Manchester last night and did a few routes....lost a bit of strength in my hands and arms because I haven't been there for a while, but my climbing partner said the weight difference was really noticeable and he could feel it in the ropes as he belayed me.
I'll have that overhanging wall done very, very soon....
Don't worry, I'll pop in from time to time and give you an update on the lardloss!
Cheers guys - keep up the good work and remember to reward yourself with a massive pat on the back for every extra day you spend alcohol free (and don't forget the concept of the 'mulligan', either)0 -
So have I got this right.....
In the last 16 years I've drunk for 172 months...so on an average of 30 days a month that means 5160 days??
With an average of 12 units a day (sometimes a lot more, sometimes a little less) that makes 61,920 units of alcohol drunk over the past 16 years or 20,640 cans of stella
ETA, £20,640 spent in 16 years!! No wonder I'm in debt!! :eek:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Oh my god, that averages out at 74.42 units a week, 60.42 units over the recommended max limit for women :eek:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0

I think maybe you should be looking forward, not back....Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

I agree, but you need to see what was wrong and remember it so you can start (and continue) making it rightDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0

I can see where you're coming from Jo. When you are drinking its easy to fool yourself into thinking you aren't drinking a lot. However, when you think back you realise it is actually a lot more than you realised.
The thing is, people don't WANT to consciously think about it. A colleague of mine buys the wine thats 3 for £10 in Asda. Does that once a week and no-one thinks thats unusual or excessive. However, depending on perecentage of wine, that about 30 units a week. QUite a lot more than the recommended amount.
Its only since joining this thread that I've really thought about how much I've drunk in the past. First time I've thought about whether I'm fit to drive the next morning. First time I've considered the effect of my drinking on other people.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling. Got to get off to work.

That could be me Miss P and I wish I stuck to just the 3 bottles! I know I've been really good at ignoring the units and all the other negatives for years. It's only the effects of the calories that has pushed me to do something about it.:o
I'll miss your posts GP, please call in regularly with an update. I do understand why you're bowing out. This thread has certainly made me think more about alcohol but in my case it's been mostly positive. As I don't drink until 6pm (except for holidays and some lunch dates), I don't really think about it during the day except in a good way (i.e. how well I've done). I know that last year I tried this on my own and did OK until I had a very social March, then Easter and by then I was back to a bottle (at least) a night. I think what's helping me on here (aside from all the empathy and support) is that I've told all you virtual friends about my targets and so it's not going to be easy to just give up.
Jo, I'm amazed that you can drink without the OH knowing. Are you sure he doesn't suspect? What about empties etc? I know my OH was worried about me drinking so much but rather than give up/cut back I would find ways of appearing to drink less in front of him. He still doesn't know about my target but he is really pleased that I'm cutting down. When I got home from Asda he was bemused at only 3 bottles. Is this ALL you're drinking in a WEEK??? Good luck for tonight.
Patch, I think Jac is winding him up.. Glad there was no drinking on Holby last night, though.
Have a good evening everyone.0
