Hhi all- welcome everyone new, and BHB long time no see? Speaking of which Bis where are you- we need wisdom on here and yours is up there with the best.

    4/4 for me please winebox.

Sleep probs are a real problem- I used to wake up at 4 as withdrawal kicks in about 6-8 hours after your last drink if you are physically dependant, or you can wake up dehydrated if you are'nt. Either way I've never really found a way to beat it- just wake up, recognise that if I was tired I would sleep, listen to a relaxation CD the counsellor gave me and do the normal stuff like avoid caffiene. About 18 months ago I joined a boxing club as I used to kick box at university (20 yrs ago!!!) and it always allowed me to get rid of anxiety and any excess adrenaline which kept me awake, and boxing 3 times a week now lets me vent stuff without sobbing into a glass. After giving up drinking I have more energy now and could never have done this before before because I'd made myself so bloody ill and was so unfit. Bit of a paradox though- when you are struggling with alcohol and depressed, the last thing you want to do is exercise but its actually one of the simple things that really works and help.

Hope everyone is OK today. Sea, good to see you are back and sheepish, but otherwise unscathed- no worries, there probably isn't a heavy drinker (and there are lots of us here) on this forum who hasn't done a similar thing- dust yourself off and prepare to enjoy the changes you have planned. Good luck everyone.

    Thanks for the welcome guys.

Yeah I'm gonna be careful not to replace the alcohol with sugary drinks like J20 - sugar in a bottle or what

serial lurker here:hello: closely following, trying to cut down. DD is (now was) allowed J2o's or Mr. T's equivelant(sp) as weekend treat : 32g sugar per bottle = 8 teaspoons sugar:eek:

Welcome to all new people, really good to have you along with us.

I've had a really hard evening, arguing with myself all the way. I was stressed over something really silly and was convinced a drink would help. But I took myself in hand and as it wasn't a weekend, or a night out, or any friends round then it was an 'ordinary evening at home' and I don't drink on ordinary evenings at home!!!!

So I didn't but I was still fancying one at 10pm! All that was keeping me going was the promises I've made to myself and to all of you. It's amazing to see myself in so many of your posts, so I know the empathy is there. This thread is wonderful!

Like so many on here I sleep badly too. Wine knocks me out for a few hours and then it's the horrible, fitful tossing and turning. On AF days I can't get to sleep for ages then I nod off for a while, when I wake up it's off to the bathroom (no suprises there if you saw how much tea and water I shift of an evening!) and then I get back to sleep fairly easily for another hour or two. I live in hope that things will get better on the sleep front.

    3AF for me please, winebox.

ahhh...sleep...used to be scared that I couldn't get to sleep for various reasons....yet another "reason" for indulgence.....yet I sleep so much better without......

and wake up calmer and my body really appreciates the proper rest.

take care everyone and welcome to all the new folk...
For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 2007
  • Morning all - snowing heavily here-so waiting for the High School to text us with the "due to adverse weather conditions....blah, blah, blah" message that will make the kids' day!

Sleep patterns - mine were typical of a drinker when I drank a lot - passing out into a dreamfilled sleep early, then laying awake from the early hours after drinking lots of water due to dehydration...and then a restless sleepless few hours before I got up exhausted.

The first couple of weeks off the booze I had the most awful nightmares...but now I sleep quite well - if I do wake, I usually get back to sleep again, which is a blessing.

Slipped a little last night - had a glass of Cava with a friend who I popped round to see - but on the plus side it was "just the one Mrs Wembley"....(showing my age!).

So that's 3 out of 4 for me WB, if you're updating.

    Keep warm everyone!

  • Morning all. Have been awake since before 5 (did anybody say insomnia?) thought I'd be first on but no! Was out with drinking friends last night and didn't succumb, or even want one, despite people trying to pop 'cheeky' vodkas into my orange. Was mighty glad to be sober as I skidded home on the ice on my trusty bicycle, ye gods no way I would have stayed upright p*ssed (and that was my good excuse too, nobody could argue with me really). Think am coming down with man flu' (but I am a laydeee), perhaps a hot toddy would do the trick (doh!!!).

Scores on the doors Anthea: 4/4.
    ...nothing to see here...

    Morning all,

feel so bad this morning that I may as well have hangover! Horrible head cold - I am tempted to go back to bed now that the children are in school.

    Have a good day folks,

BtW winebox that's 4/4 for me!
