Hey guys and gals! I have been away for a week staying with my gorgeous boyfriend :) Am thinking of moving to Brighton with him (but thats a major step) as its about 120miles away!! :)
But have made a few payments totalling £22, £12 to virgin, and £10 to HSBC which I accidentally used again :(

....as the ol' smEgg website doesn't want to let me in to make a payment! Anyone else notice that it takes aaaages for payments to clear with smEgg which means more interest to pay?

Hi Danko. Are you making switch payments on SmEGG's site or asking Egg to collect from your bank account nominated?

My solution - Do you have online banking for your current account?

Rather than pay on the SmEGGy website (their own) I pay direct from my HSBC account, i.e get HSBC to send the money. I make the payment in the morning and it usually appears on the Egg statement that evening....(some new system called "Faster Payments")

.....so if you can ; maybe try it the other way round rather than getting Egg to collect the money it credits quicker? Depends what bank you are with as not all have signed up to "Faster Payments" I tried this a few weeks back as Egg were taking ages to process stuff, Sharks !! , and have done it since. Payments on Sat and Sunday appear on the Egg list on Monday night.

    EDIT

Wikipedia has a good article on there ("faster payments service") that says HSBC have signed up and Egg can recieve so thats why mine are going through quick.

These are the banks signed up :

Twelve banking groups (Barclays, HBOS, HSBC, RBSG, Lloyds TSB, Nationwide, Alliance & Leicester, Co-op Bank, Abbey, National Australia Bank, Northern Rock, Danske Bank Group) have committed to implement the scheme. Between them they represent 95% of the payments made in the UK. The other banks and building societies will be making decisions on how, when and if to join the scheme over the next year or so.

WOW - A SYSTEM TO CREDIT OUR PAYMENTS FASTER ?? THAT MIGHT COST EM A FEW QUID IN INTEREST?? lol

Oooh - thanks for this - I shall try it too. I have also noticed that the payments take a long old time to clear if you make them on the website direct! It's probably because Egg don't have that 'faster payment' system yet. xx

Hi, everyone, have not been posting recently as have been off work with vile cold. My head feels as if it is stuffed full of wet cotton wool! Haven't really been keeping up with PADs either, but have been keeping up with all of you and will climb back in the saddle soon! I start my overtime on Monday / Wednesday evenings next week for the next 4 weeks, so I have better pull myself round by then! It will mean long days + the commute home [never a joy] but worth it when I keep feverishly calculating my March pay packet!!
Sorry to hear of everyone's ups and downs. It hasn't really been a good week in many ways, although the PADs are always inspiring. On Wednesday my best friend was evicted and her home repossessed, because her estranged husband just stopped the mortgage payments and there was nothing she could do. She has week on / week off custody of her 2 girls, but now instead of being in a lovely house with her for their week they are in 1 room in a hostel and her ex is living in their previous family home - lovely 3 bedroom house. It really doesn't seem fair. She is going to court for the final hearing at the end of May and cannot afford any legal representation. She has asked me to act as her McKenzie friend, which means I can sort of represent her, but I have no legal training. If any of you out there have any experience of this, could you PM me, as frankly I am getting more and more nervous as her court date approaches and I know her ex has retained a solicitor and a barrister. Talk about David and Goliath!!
Lovely to see the sun, I agree. Well done to all of you who are getting those cards down; I promise I will get myself sorted as form next week.

:T Thanks muchos Andy! I've just making the odd payment with my debit card in addition to my DD payment. I bank with HSBC so deffo going to try that approach out tomorrow! :D

I just can't believe it takes so long to credit with smEgg by which point you've already accrued another wodge of interest. They are sneaky cheeky sharkies indeed! Raah! Though I don't think sharkies make a raah noise... maybe they make Jaws noises? :rotfl:

    .

How sad, especially with 2 little girls involved. If she is on low income she could be entitled to legal aid. If not most solicitors offer a free half hour so hopefully she / you could glean a little info from that.

Also, try contacting National Debtline. I've put the link here. They can also help to signpost you / your friend of places to go for help. I was once means tested for help from the law society, but in theory the joint income meant our earnings were over the threshold. It's definitely worth a go though. The National Debtline can give you a number.

Another one is the Citizens Advice Bureau.

I'm sorry to hear you're under the weather too. Hope you're well enough to embark on those extra hours next week.

You know what's coming now, don't you?

    Yep.....

    .....it's a dodgy hug lol smiley-hug002.gif

One of my lovely friends text me today and offered to have my little one for me for a couple of hours this afternoon, as she knows i'm home alone and have a lot to do this weekend.

    I have managed to:

Buy some little presents and wrap them (LO is 6 tomorrow)

Buy a helium balloon and banners and then hide them! :p

Do a small shop for Grandad

Cook dinner for today and Monday (we're out tomorrow for lunch and then LO's party)

    Vacuum upstairs

Hang the washing out - i'm with you tomtombeanie, you can't beat freshly dried washing! You're right London Andy it feels fab out today.

So i am now a very satisfied bunny :j and just needed to share all this. That couple of hours has made such a difference and i am very grateful to my friend for being so thoughtful  :T
