ell the news first. We were so anxious that dear SIL would not be able to fly out because of the snow but we picked them up at the airport and we soon had a wondeful pile of knitwear and baby items to ooh and ahhhh over. Well I gave them 1 day to settle and then ventured off to the town with the childrens home.
Here are the pictures of us on the way and also the convent where the children are. I had taken the precaution of translating all about our charity work and explaining all the items apart from mine of course had come all the way from the UK. We are trying really hard with our Spanish but that would have been a step too far !!
First photo of the wonderful bag I was able to put together 29!!!!! items

Lastly the convent where the baby is

A little and I mean little Spanish lady answered our knock and read the explanatory letter really carefully. She then beamed and told us in Spanish I may add that " yes the baby was there and he was very good and a little baby. She was very full of thanks and went off looking really pleased with everything.

We actually felt quite emotional as we left to think we had done something to help our adopted winter home. OH was really proud of me which was lovely.
WELL NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS POSTING A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO MOST GENEROUSLY GAVE THEIR TIME, WOOL .COSTS BOTH FOR WOOL AND ITEMS AND POSTAGE

1 parcel came without a note so I am not going to thank you by name as it would be terrible to miss anyone out. You know who you are and I hope this whole saga has left you with a warm feeling as to what the power of good can achieve. iT CERTAINLY HAS ME
    BLESSINGS TO YOU ALL
Try and do a good deed every day.

Hi Chalky - good to hear from you. The photos are wonderful - thank you so much for posting them. It's lovely to think how much has been achieved in such a short time, and I am so pleased you told us about the baby and gave us the opportunity to help. I love the thought that somewhere in Spain there is a baby who pulled at all our heartstrings.

Well done to you and your SIL for all the organising and making sure the things we made got to where they were most needed. I have a lovely warm glow, now!

  • Shelley - thanks for the thanks  I'm glad everything is good enough! I've recruited a friend at work as well and she can't wait to try the bears too. A relative of hers had a premature baby that only lived a few hours and they could only choose from a cupboard full of second-hand items on the ward to dress him. In the end they went out and bought an outfit for £50 (long time ago and not many preemie outfits around) and teddy bears (one for baby and one for Mum). He would have been 18 now - thank goodness there are people like you around! :A

Mioliere - please can you update me with 1 square + 3 smoothie hats

    :D Charity stuff - 3 buntings, 1 angel pocket, 2 mini teds, 2 baby hats, 2 squares, 3 smoothie hats, 3 sleeping bags, 1 aaron square, 4 boobs:D

Hi everyone - hope you're not snowbound. We were threatened with heavy snow overnight and there's not been one flake of it! I'm relieved because I have lots of errands to run but I know the grandchildren will be disappointed!

Itsloopylisa - how sad for your poor friend. It makes me realise how valuable the things we make are. I know the buntings and burial gowns are very sad to knit, but they must bring such comfort to bereaved parents at a terrible time in their lives.

Maytaurus - thanks for all your links and pictures!

Well, lots of updating to do - you girls are all fantastic - thank you.

    Have a great day!

PLEASE NOTE: Thanks to everyone for such a good response to Chalky's appeal for the orphanage in Spain. Her SIL has arrived with all our items, and they have been delivered to the orphanage. Chalky has posted some great photos on page 27 of this thread. I think we will have made a big difference to a baby who arrived there with nothing; doesn't it make you feel good?!

LATEST UPDATE: Don't forget to let me know if I get these figures wrong - as some of you know, it's not difficult for me to make a complete hash of it!

My totals should be 3 buntings and a Lamb which I sent to PreemiesUK to sell to help with the postage. It was my first attempt at this pattern, these are my latest 2 which I am helping to sell at an Easter Market.
