  • Please update me with 2 baby hats.

That's all my minty wool gone, apart from a little that might make a smoothie hat. At last I've used a whole ball of wool. Not knitted so much for yeeeeaaaarrrs.

Good morning everyone - hope you're all keeping warm! It's not too bad here - about two to three inches of snow, enough to keep all the local schools closed yesterday and today, so both grandchildren have been off and enjoying their first real snowy weather ever. Apparently, with their Dad's help, they tried to make a snowman but it turned into a snowmeerkat! Both my DILs are teachers so they are also enjoying unexpected days off!

I kept trying to pluck up the courage to make a snowman but it was just too cold. I might have a go later just to make the most of the snow. I hope no-one has had their lives badly disrupted by it.

Anyway, have almost finished my first teddy hand puppet and will probably make some more because they're easy, save on stuffing and sewing up, and, as Sheyo has pointed out, may help a traumatised child to deal with what may have happened to them.

Anyway, here's the update and don't forget Shezmit's competition. There is a prize of 5 stitch markers for the person whose parcel of knitted items to Preemies UK is picked as the winner. Enclose your name and mention MSE in the parcel. Good luck!

PLEASE NOTE: Thanks to everyone for such a good response to Chalky's appeal for the orphanage in Spain. Her SIL will be on her way there soon with all the goodies!

LATEST UPDATE: Don't forget to let me know if I get these figures wrong - as some of you know, it's not difficult for me to make a complete hash of it!

  • Please update me with 1 more bunting and you missed off my toy.
Off school again today DS very happy as its his birthday. We shall be out in the snow again today 12" of snow yesterday - our road is on a hill, there were about 30 people at the top of the hill tobogganing down for about 3 hours, people bought out tea, coffee, mulled wine, biscuits, crisps. It was like a real community spirit. Everyone was happy and chatting to each other. More snow :snow_laug :snow_laug

Craftlady - sorry I missed your toy off the list. I'll put that right now, and add your bunting. what is the toy, by the way? I'm listing them separately.

Happy Birthday to your DS - he must be thrilled to have the day off and snow at the same time!

    Have another great day!

  • Mioliere - My giant square will end up at 21". Sorry I didn't manage to get back before you added it to your list - as it's a dark colour and knitted in wool unravelled from an old jumper I think it will have to be an animal blanket instead. Hope that doesn't create too big an editing job.

I agree with Chrisbethany - you do get a much neater edge to the square - and all sides are equal too so you don't have to keep measuring. So I think I'll be doing more giant squares!

Could someone advise on the best square size for a baby blanket please.

I have just fumbled accross this thread, and wanted to say what a fantastic campaign.
I'm moving house in a month so have no spare time whatsoever at the moment, but I hereby promise in 6 weeks time I will return, and do my bit for such worthy causes.

You are all such wonderful people.

Hi Zippitty - it won't cause any editing probs to add your blanket as an animal one. I'll do that tomorrow. As for baby blankets, I was looking at patterns yesterday and they can be any size from 24" to 36".

Sexy Em - welcome to you and good luck with the house move - I don't envy you because I HATE moving! Hope the snow keeps away for the day you move! We shall look forward to hearing from you once you have settled in.

Well, first it snows, then it stops, then it snows again - methinks it't time to crawl under my blanket on the sofa!

  • Thanks Mioliere. You always reply so quickly I think you must be permanently plugged in to this forum! You've confirmed what I had been thinking - there doesn't seem to be a standard size for baby blankets, so I shall just knit and hope for the best (once I have some wool that is). Hope your blanket is nice and warm. Our snow has nearly all gone now (thank goodness).
