I discovered the other day that there is a local lady who collects squares and sends out blankets. As she likes the sqaures knitted diagonally, I thought I'd have a go and see if I liked knitting them that way - then decided not to stop at 7" and my square is now measures 20"! (which is about as many stitches as will fit on the needles). Hopefully I'll find a home for it.

By the way - what is "housework" ?

    Hi Zippitty

I do my squares diagonally. I think they have tighter edges than straight up and down ones. I start with 1 st and inc 1 at the beg of each row, up to 50, then back down again. That gives a 7" square. It's a bit fiddly until you get up to 3 or 4 sts but it's fine after that.

Had a lazy day in the warm today, catching up with Poldark (all this weeks episodes - freeview History Channel) that DH had recorded for me! Isn't it funny how dated old progs seem now - still love them though :o !

    Love to all :T

Good morning everyone. A bit late for me today; we watched a film that finished late - it was a scary one so I spent most of the time hiding my eyes behind my knitting!

This is the end of our first month of the year and the totals, after just 31 days of 2009, are phenomenal, so please give yourselves a huge pat on the back. It's amazing what has been achieved in so short a time, so thank you, everyone!

Anyway, Chalky - I hope your SIL has a safe trip to Spain and has at least some of her own clothes with her! We would love to see some photos of the orphanage/children's home. I think we've all enjoyed making things for this appeal so thanks for asking us!

Zipitty - I'll update the totals to list your square as a baby blanket - let me know if that's OK or if you've carried on knitting and it's become a bigger one!

I just have to sew the spine on my dinosaur and he'll be finished. I'll try and do that today and post photos on the Yahoo site. I seem to be really slow compared to most of you but I've had a week of interruptions and I'm determined to make sure next week is easier!

Shez - your teds just need stuffing and the faces added so I hope to get them done over the next couple of days.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday and doesn't get too cold - the forecast is not so good, is it?

    KathyXX

PLEASE NOTE: Thanks to everyone for such a good response to Chalky's appeal for the orphanage in Spain. Her SIL will be on her way there soon with all the goodies!

LATEST UPDATE: Don't forget to let me know if I get these figures wrong - as some of you know, it's not difficult for me to make a complete hash of it!

    Hello everyone!
Just been catching up on the thread, and what a lot I've missed already this year! However, I've started doing some knitting now and I'm doing squares to be made into blankets to go to a Romanian orphanage which the lady from a local charity, The Lewis Trust (http://www.yell.com/listings/DoFindListings/1753855/Lewis's-Trust-Charity-Furniture-Shop/Charity-Shops)
visits twice a year; she takes clothes for under 5s as well as other supplies, so I may have a go at some other things as well.

So far my total is 9 squares.
