Shezmit can you confirm that the Aaron squares are 4" x 4" ? I'm going to try crocheting some. With my record for trying to crochet, this may mean you never see any of course :rotfl: I suspect it will end up in a tangled heap in my knitting bag but here goes....

Hi and welcome, Swirley - I love the name! When I first learnt to crochet I had the same problem and worked out that I was turning, doing the chain to represent the first stitch, then working into the next stitch along. As soon as I did the chain then worked the first stitch into the very first stitch of the row, my squares became squares! I hope this makes sense! Make sure you count the stitches on each row, too, to be sure that each row is the same. There are links to some great tutorials in Maytaurus's long post on the previous page (or it may be the page before that, it's been a busy day on here today!). As Shezmit says, baby blankets are easy and always in demand.

I hope you enjoy it here! Just ask if there's anything you are unsure of.

Thanx for the help! What size crochet hook and what kind of wool would be suitable for a baby blanket? Also, roughly what size does it need to be, and can it be made up of various stitches (I only know the 4 basic crochet stitches)?
I'm really eager to get started :j........I'm making my OH take me to the local wool shop 2mo to buy some wool supplies!!! :D
    Thanx again. Jo.

When i do blankets i use 3.5mm with double knitting wool but you can use bigger needle if you want. Its whatever you feel is best for you

    Good luck

Sorry daffodil, can't help but I am sure Maytaurus will be along soon with an appropriate link to the pattern.

Have been twiddling around in front of the TV and loads of youtube tutorials with my crochet hook and have managed some fairly consistent rows of double and treble chain - by Jove, I think I may have got it:j so to round that off, a daft question - how many single chains would I need to start off with for a baby blanket and would a blanket done row by row with these stitches be OK? Going to do a bit more twiddling just to make sure.........

Hi, just found this thread, have been knitting for the past year or so.... my gran taught me when I was little and only started it up again recently, sort of self taught too with trial and error. Over the past year I have knitted the following:

2 toddler cardigans in Aran (2-3 years)
2 toddler tank tops (one still in progress) (2-3 years)
1 toddler woolly hat (2-3 years)
2 toddler hats and mittens sets sold on ebay (6-9 months)
1 scarf trimmed with funky fur for my sis!

I have also crocheted 3 baby blankets which were given away to friends.

Hi all, looks like everyone's staying very busy! I've been taking my knitting to work, but so far it hasn't made it out of my bag, so it's just the little time I get in the evening. That said, I've just 'finished' a baby bunting - I have just to join the top of the hood, but wasn't sure what is meant by 'weave the seam closed'. Could Shelley or someone let me know what/how to do ? Thanks so much. I won't put this on my figures until I've fully completed it, as I don't want to put things aside for sewing and have a huge pile to do all at once[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Sans Serif]!

I seem to recall Shelley, that you said you need buntings and I have a bag of baby wool odds and ends to use up, so I'll gladly do more of these. I have some yellow wool, definitely not pastel, it's what I think of as sunshine yellow, but it's very soft and I wondered if it would be ok to use for these or if you think it is too bright and not appropriate?

    Aeshna x

edit: the wool is called Pure Gold Baby DK
