Hi - am thinking of getting one these Kenwood slicers. Can anyone tell me the diameter of the blade? I cannot see it on the Kenwood website. Also does it fold up fairly compactly? Finally, it clearup easy? Thanks for any advice.0

I have a Panasonic BM and now always use the sandwich loaf recipe rather than the basic loaf or the rapid loaf as I find it a lot easier to slice. I think its because its got a closer texture (but its still nice and light).0

The best advice I ever had about slicing bread was to remember that it's not pressure on the knife that slice but the sawing action.
It really makes a difference - I only use a bread knife and never have a problem."You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
The slicer is great but you need to rest the bread for about 12 hours before slicing as its too fresh before then. It slicer meat, cheese etc too so very useful and no wast bits - it folds up to store and comes to bits to wash - all in all very good but takes a bit of getting used to - worth it though.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

I went to a Lakeland shop and asked about that plastic contraption, and the helpful lady in the shop told me about the adjustable knife. Being rather stuck for gadget room in our kitchen I plumped for the knife, and have found it very good for slicing bread (it is quite sharp, so saw with it and you don't need to press hard) and its very compact, sitting in our normal cutlery drawer. I have used it on veggies too when I want even slices. The Kenwood thing looks great, but I just don't have the room.0

I've got the adjust-a- slice knife but am not getting on with it very well. You can't cut to the bottom of the slice because the adjustable bit gets in the way....any tips?We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
I'm fairly new at using my breadmaker, but I'm extremely happy with the results it produces, just not my nor my BH's cutting ability!
This may seem a daft question, but is there a secret to slicing a homemade loaf? I wait until it's cooled, and I've even tried using the electric knife (which was a little bit better). Have also tried laying it on it's side with not much better results. The main 2 moans are the slices being very uneven - apparently neither of us has a very steady hand, lol - and the "squashing" of the loaf when slicing.
Any suggestions or tips you may have greatly appreciated!0 -
a long bread knife.i use whats called a pastry knife in chefs terms.

then use a sawing action not really pushing on the bread.
line the loaf with the corner of the board right up to the front of the board.this makes it easier ot cut straight as you have the 2 stright edges.0 -
Hi kadeeae,
I have one of these, kenwood slicer .
My bread slicing was always a bit hit and miss........fine if all I wanted was a slice of bread, but the wonky doorstop sandwiches in the packed lunches had to be seen to be believed.
I got the slicer at Chrismas and I haven't looked back. I think it has probably paid for itself as I am getting about six slices of bread more per loaf and after reading this thread I've been using it for cooked meats too.
There's an older thread with lots of advice on slicing bread that should help:
Slicing bread
I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the suggestions together.
