Yes a fortnight can be too long -depends on what you want to do. For me a week was too long in august last year-the ringing of the machines was starting to do my head in
Much as I love Vegas I was glad to leave-we went on to Utah and California -with hindsigiht I'd have done fewer days or split it into 2 stays 3 nights at the beginning of the trip and 4 at the end instead. I think you'll get different answers from different people. I couldn't do a 2 week beach holiday either-but some people love it

I loved Vegas when I was there last year for 7 days, but I've got to be honest at the end of the 7 days I was ready to move on. It might have been because of how busy it got towards the end of the week due to Memorial Day crowds.
Still hasn't stopped me booking another trip for March this year, just for 5 nights this time though.

The Secret GardenI'm waiting until I get back from Benidorm before I start my pre -Vegas diet....no point in doing it before as we are full board and there are bound to be to many temptations as well as all those pints for a euro:hello: LORRAINE :hello:0

Finally got to the end of the thread, it's taken a few days!
I've booked my flights to Las Vegas for 2nd-8th April £833 with Virgin for two of us. Not booked a hotel yet. Was thinking maybe 3 nights at Paris or Ballys and 3 nights in Bellagio.
It's a surprise trip for my husbands 30th, i'm ready to burst with excitement. I'm hoping to leave it as long as possible before i tell him. He's going to love it!!
I have a huge list of things i want to see and places i want to go. Was thinking of booking a Grand Canyon trip on his actual birthday and perhaps catching a show. Don't know what yet but maybe Penn and Teller.
I'm desperate to tell him!!!!!0 -

It sounds like a lovely thing you are planning for him! I bet he will be thrilled.
The only thing is that I think that Vegas is one of those places that it may be better to include him in the planning earlier on...because there's so much to do and because you will be there for a relatively short time, I suppose part of me thinks involving him more in the process will ensure that there's no issue down the road where he really, really, REALLY wants to do something but you've already booked to do something else the only time it works? Then there will be the weirdness of either him not doing what he wants, or you giving up something you'd planned and him feeling weird about that...maybe?
Just a thought...
And try to plan it so you stay at Bellagio last.Only other thing is that Paris/Bally's are literally directly across the street from Bellagio...perhaps consider staying different parts of the strip if you are going to move mid trip?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Welcome kellyt. I also booked our first Vegas trip as a surprise for OH 30th in 2005. I booked in March and had to wait til July to tell him on his actual birthday. I planned the trip for 4 weeks later, so he could also get excited in the build up. Before I told him, I thought I'd burst with excitement!Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -

Well, me and my OH have been to Vegas three times- twice for 14 nights and once for 7 nights.
Two of the trips were paid for by Bet365 and Ladbrokes respectively (my other half qualified online to play in the World Series of Poker in 2005 and 2007 so everything was free!) and last year we paid for a 14 day trip ourselves with a DIY package totalling approx £1,300 HOWEVER, he won a poker tournament at The Orleans whilst over there, which basically wiped out the cost of the holiday! RESULT!!!
So, in three trips we have only had to find our spending money. We would probably never have been otherwise – but both now have the Vegas bug and adore the place!
Unfortunately, we are not so blessed with the annual leave situation. I get 20 days paid leave therefore I had to literally have NO DAYS OFF WORK for six months – but Vegas is worth it and I would do it every year given the chance.
We, too, do not have children (as yet) and would say that this would be a big factor in deciding whether to go there or not both as a holiday destination and in financial terms.
Viva Las Vegas!!

I had considered choosing a hotel on a different part of the trip. Just looking at Venetian, NYNY and MGM now.....
As for telling him - I might! I'm useless at secrets.0 -
The Bellagio FountainsPS. The Pre Vegas Trip diet started today!!The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0
