what's the weirdest things to do in vegas? as well as midget strippers, obviously :)

I don't know if it qualifies as weird, perhaps novel and unusual, but I really want to do a tour of one of the brothels just outside of Las Vegas. A friend of ours who lives there (Vegas, not the brothel!) said the tour he went on at (I think) The Chicken Ranch was fascinating.

Just thought of another thing... Area 51 I want to do that but suppose some might find that weird!

I am planning my 4th visit to Vegas hopefully April next year. I'm looking for some advice regarding the flight, its soooo long, the thought just fills me with dread, but it just has to be done.

I was thinking about going indirect and was wondering if the flights are less busy so possibly allowing me to have a row to myself and being able to stretch out a bit and have a sleep. I have recently been to Florida and did premium economy, but it was still a nightmare for me.

Also, when will the hotel offers start for April.

    Thanks for any advice.

What is it that bothers you most about the flight? If it's just the general idea of flying, as it is for my mother-in-law, I'd think direct and just getting it over with would make more sense...though perhaps having a break between legs might help you..but I know for her doubling the take offs and landings would make it worse. If it's just boredom which can really make a long flight seem so much longer, if you haven't before perhaps get a personal media player (Ipod/Archos/Creative, etc.) and load it up with movies or television shows you like. For me, that makes the time move much more quickly - moreso than watching the IFE provided on the plane as I don't have to pick from options they've given, but have my own stash. I ususally have at least one whole series of a TV show to get through along with loads of movies I like...really helps me...plus it has lots of music I like and with noise-reducing or cancelling headphones can make it a bit easier to sleep...plus I'm not a big drinker so one drink with the meal will usually be enough to make me a bit sleepy. :)

As for whether there would be spare seats going indirect, it really is going to vary by the route, by the day, etc...so really no guarantee - even if there are spare seats on the plane, no way to ensure they will be next to you.

Perhaps consider trying to upgrade to the exit row seats if available...won't help you stretch out sideways, but will at least give you room to stretch your legs which may be more comfortable for you.

Im with Ferf I think direct is the better option. I hate flying well not the flying so much I suffer from travel sickness and the worst part is the landing and taking off so direct is a much better option for me.

Also whilst I'm on the subject know its not really relevnt to Vegas but does anyone have any tips to calm travel sickness down a bit? Am sure I have tried everything but thought I may as well ask! I usually just take the tabs and hope they knock me out, I slept for about 7 out of the 9 hours on the way back last year!!

Its the boredom I think, I find that I can't rest, read, have a nod or watch a movie, its really annoying. I am also nearly always ill on landing and I think that also preys on my mind. I love going to America and the flight is just something I have to get through.

Thanks for your advice though, do you know when the April hotel offers might start.

Exactly like me (Im sure I convince myself I am going to be ill even if Im not) if I was you I would honestly do direct especially if you dont like the landing. Have you tried the travel sick tabs they make me drowsy a lot of the time which I find helps. Down side to that is if you are still drowsy when you land but am usually that excited I forget about being tired.

I tried all the "over the counter" stuff which didn't help so I went to my doctor who prescribed a patch that I stick behind my ear. It made me feel a bit wierd though, dry throat and nose and blurred vision, but hey, I wasn't sick which I usually am on landing.

Might have to try that one. Would try it before I get on the plane though, Thanks :)

My sister has the same problem and had the same reaction to the patch prescribed by her doctor. She normally only flies for work so she can't really be all whacked out when she lands...so the patch wasn't really ideal for her...sorry to say that so far she's not found anything that works well for her. I can really imagine that anticipating this sort of problem on landing would make for anxious flight.

While I don't have this issue to deal with, I did used to find that long haul flights seemed interminable...I never wanted to read the books I brought with me (once I brought 3 to try to fix this, and nope - didn't want to read any of them), I didn't like the look of any of the movie options (or the IFE was broken, or I didn't start watching when the cycle started so now it's 2 hours until they start again). I'd just sit there fixated on how much longer I was stuck with nothing to do. I swear that at least for me, now that I bring my own video entertainment it's soooo much better for me...makes the time go much more quickly...as soon as we're in the air I switch on and usually have my nose in Hell's Kitchen or Project Runway or something like that until it's nearly time to land...I can stop it anytime I want to get up, totally in my control, etc. It may work for you at least to make the flight itself pass more quickly.

As for deals for April - probably end of Jan or so would be when the better ones start appearing and then on from there - though in this economy you may start seeing them earlier and earlier.

Thanks Ferf, I thought this was only me, I am literally counting the hours down and watching the seat back map of the little plane making its never ending journey. I'll try your suggestions and sorry this all got a bit off topic.
