Hi folks
3 weeks until we leave for las vegas and I am hoping any of you experienced vegas people could recommend/pass on any tips that you think would help.
Read loads of stuff here on the forum but basically as we have 5 nights before moving on to Florida would like to know:
airport - how much to expect to pay in a taxi to centre of strip should we prebook it?
restaurants - any favourites for breakfast and evening meal?
anything else at all appreciated.
thanks0 -

you can find a list of fares to each casino from the airport in the guide (post 1) . no need to book there are always Taxis .http://www.taxi.state.nv.us/FaresFees.htm
Breakfast favs for me would be
The Peppermill has Huge portions and great food. if you have any intentions of getting some tickets from the half price booths there is one directly outside The Peppermill (Opposite Circus Circus area)
The Mirage has 2 good breakfast options . The Cravings Buffet @ Breakfast is good , but my Fav is Carnigies which is like a old fashioned New York Deli/ Diner .

If your south strip i enjoyed Red ,White and Blue @ Mandalay Bay
http://www.mandalaybay.com/dining/redwhiteblue.aspx
For evening The Cheesecake Factory deep inside the Forum Mall is a Fav of most here , mine too.
For Steak you have so many high quality steak houses. We have enjoyed The Steakhouse on the top of Binions (downtown) . don't be put off by the casino downstairs .
You should try a least one buffet . The Spice Market Buffet @ Planet Hollywood is best in terms of price , Choice , and Quality . The Bellagio buffet is the best for quality but expensive ( but well worth it !!) beware there always seem to be queues to get in though.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
The Bellagio FountainsThanks to steff for the Wynn promo link. Got 3 nights in a resort suite at Encore for $119 per night. Result. Would have liked to stay for the whole 6 nights but over the weekend the rate went up to $169 so we are doing the unthinkable and changing hotels mid trip  Now the first 3 nights will be in a Go room at Flamingo for $80 per night, then the last 3 at Encore. I can't wait, we had a look at their pool area earlier this year and it looks a dream. And the bonus of a complimentry upgrade to a suite was the icing on the cake.
I must have read this wrong stoneman - you are moving hotels!! I've just fainted!Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -

We were advised by the hotel that Hotel to Airport should be about $15-$17. Sadly we got ripped off on the way from airport to hotel for $24 and a cabbie who used the airport tunnel (which they're not allowed to). Speaking to another couple they had their cab pulled by the cops because he'd tried to take the tunnel. He then tried to do rip them off by taking a lot route to the strip and they simply refused to pay. Next time we'll book an airport shuttle bus i think.0 -

To clarify, taxi drivers are allowed to take you through the tunnel, but are supposed to ask you first as it is more expensive (but normally faster which some would prefer).
At the moment, as Luci mentioned previously, there is construction on Tropicana which may impact traffic on the surface roads - so the tunnel may actually be the cheapest and fastest option at the moment.
When in doubt, I would ask the taxi driver to take you the cheapest way, or the fastest way - whichever is your preference...taking a shuttle for more than one person is likely to cost as much or more than a taxi and take several times longer.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Several of us have. It's mentioned on page one, too.
50% discount code until tomorrow is FIFTY...then they will likely send out further discount codes - sign up with them to get their regular emails - with a very few exceptions you can wait until the discount codes come out each month so instead of paying $10 for a $25 voucher, you'll pay $5 or less for a $25 voucher. Biggest things to remember is many state that a tip of 18-20% will automatically be added to the bill before the discount, some do not include alcohol in the total needed to use the certificate and you can only use one per party.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
From what the couple told us, the cab driver was pulled as he'd got in the wrong lane after leaving the airport and then must have been further reprimanded for not having asked them about the extra expense (as they told us they were told by the cop not to let the driver take them through the tunnel and not to pay more than about $15).
The cab trip back to the airport took about 15 mins via the Tropicana junction which considering the roadworks and it was lunchtime we thought was pretty good. Better than our pre-booked shuttle bus which was running over 45 mins late picking us up and which we gave up on and took the cab option. Didn't bother phoning to find out why as the hotel reckoned a half hour late wasn't an issue and the traffic was bad!
As a lot of people have done in previous postings i would definately make a point of having a meal at Ellis Island. Its cheap and good food.0
