Cheers ferf i will take a look....

what about tomtom, anyone know which one to use?

You can buy a Western USA map for any TomTom (as far as I know) for £29.95. Here's the link:

    http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/select.php

However, if you can get your hands on a TomTom 900 series (910, 920, 930, 940), the USA maps are built in. I've got a 910 which is a couple of years old now but still works a treat.

I use this one, nice big screen and fast to connect to satellites. I even have my wifes' voice as the talking directions, but you can get loads for free, Marilin Monroe, John Cleese, Family Guy, etc.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Anyone who can meet me in central London is welcome to borrow my spare TOM TOM 910 which has ll North American Maps on it as long as I have not lent it out. I will require proper ID Passport or Driving licence and a cheque as a deposit which I will not cash and will return on safe return of my TOM TOM.

IP is booked but is fully refundable so if a great deal comes up later we can cancel. We know freinds who have been recently (last september) and they stayed there and they said for the price they prefered it to the strat or riveria where they have stayed before. I suppose it is personal prederence.
The train package (there are several different ones) stays one night at the grand canyon railway hotel in williams and one night in maswaki lodge in grand canyon village i think with train either way and some meals in as well as rim tour. in october around $600 for two of us plus car hire. prefer to do this rather than air tour as it gives us a couple of days outside las vegas in middle of trip over the weekend when prices of hoteld are slightly more.

Maswaki lodge is cool its just accross from the Canyon 5 mins walkish really nice setting take a torch with you for night walks its so nice you wil have a great trip.

Strat rooms are better than IP IMHO but location is terrible and makes it a very bad choice,t Strat and Riviera are not good properties to compare. Its a mile beneath even Excalibur but I can see why you dont want to spend your whole trip in one area of the Strip. Its your holiday and your money and all Ihave tried to do is give you my opinion, I hope that you have a great stay wherever you stay mate.

Very good point. I'm so glad that our hotel for April is booked and paid for (there's a very big convention on that week). When booking non-refundable deals, I just weigh up how much it's likely to go down against how much it's likely to increase, that's all you can do. By booking and paying now, at least you eliminate any risk of the price rocketing to something you can't afford. And you don't want to end up in the IP do you ??

Booking but only paying a deposit guarentee's your price its only currency that can change. I keep dollars and apart from the first night pay cash so I am probably OK for at least one more trip.

    LOL @sew's cheese sandwich
For a first time visit I'd probably pick IP over both Strat and the Riv purely for location . That been said I donl't really care where I stay so long as I can get to midstrip without paying for a cab. I actually rather like the Riv but not for dining)-I've had upgrades whenever I've stayed there but then I'm happy at the Orleans too which is too remote for the Strip Snobs :)
Our next trip is at Easter £330 flight-yay -and double miles-yay again and my Vegas first timer friend suggested the IP but as we could get the Flamingo for $75/$33 I vetoed it-Cheap hotels are for when prices are high not for when everywhere is trying to grab my business. I'm keeping an open m in d for now tho-and may well rebook something nicer than the Flamingo closer to the time if prices are right.
My bet is Yorkie will get a better deal closer to the time anyway but it's always nice to have something booked that can be cancelled especially for a first visit :)

That's a very generous offer. Anyone who needs one should jump at the chance (and maybe slip you $20 to say thanks). I know I would if I needed one.
