The Sat Navs were available , quite a few people on various forums got one and i saw some on the shelf too, you probably didnt see them as the sale started boxing day and the post on here was 2 days after by that time you were too late
  • It was pretty funny walking round HMV on wednesday. Everything not in the (pretty poor) sale had clearly had it's prices massively inflated.

The Orphanage 1 disc DVD (£5 in Zavvi) - £20,
Series' of Lost - £60 each,
Peep Show 1-5 (£10 in Zavvi, £18 everywhere on the net) - £50
  • i reckon these retail chains are putting on these fake sales in order to pinch as money from the shoppers as possible because next year they will be hit pretty hard by the recession.

...but not all of them are like that and there are some bargains to be had.

Dont they have to have it on sale at full price for so long?

I think I read somewhere recently that the rules have changed and now items don't have to have been on sale at their full price for a set amount of time anymore before they can be put 'on sale'. Just been looking on Consumer Direct however, and can't find anything on there about it.

The regulations were changed last year under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. Guidance on these is provided at http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file46254.pdf

The new law doesn't lay down any specific timescales for having an item at full price, etc. In fact it looks as if it is a waste of time because there is nothing specific in it at all. It is only when precedent is set in a court of law that there will be anything to base a judgement on, i.e. traders can do what they like.

I went into a Blacks (camping) store today and picked up a pair of Merrell trainers of a Sale stand; there was a pile of boxes there but none priced.
So I went to the till and asked the price and the assistant told me they were full price.
I told them I'd got them off the sale stand, so he spoke with the other assistant who said "if they're not marked sale then they aren't in the sale", and they moved them off the stand.
Naturally, I didn't buy them, so no sale.

    I wasn't pleased with Comet's "sale"!!

Looked at a 37 inch Samsung LCD HD TV in October £699, didn't buy it went back New Years Eve it was supposedly on "sale" at only £699, previous price £799!!!

Told the guy that was trying to sell us it, he didn't have much to say about it!

As soon as it became clear that we were heading for difficult times, I pictured all the marketers of these big retail companies getting into a huddle and coming up with schemes to make them appear to be having a sale without actually reducing prices all that much. Then I realised this is what happens every year except this time they have gone into overdrive.
