Definately worth a complaint although I suspect the policy provides cover for medical treatment but not consequential losses of the treatment

I have complained. I know other people who have used insure & go and they had taxi costs covered, it seems like they are now doing everything they can to actually pay out on claims.

How come you state you got a taxi to and from the airport when you were injured while abroad?
  • Taxi fares are included in the policy which I took out and I had to educate the staff (including claims manager) at Travel Claims Services of Southend as to what was and was not covered by the policy - I was paid eventually. Its not particularly the insurer or the policy that is the problem with claims settlements, its where they outsource claims handling to a third party ie Travel Claims Services.

When you complain make sure you copy the letter of complaint to the insurer (as well as the claims handling company) that way the insurer will log the amount of complaints, which should have the effect of either suggesting more staff training to the claims handlers , reducing their fee or better still changing claims handlers (although I suspect they are much of a muchness)

Thank you, I have the gold insurance so hopefully it will be covered too. It is quite misleading as they say if you are injured they will get you home then once place it says Taxi's are not covered then another it says they are.

The cost of any taxi fares (except for taxi costs paid for the initial journey to a hospital abroad due to an insured person’s illness or injury)

What section do you think they are covered under?

It's not just Insure and Go that are always trying to wriggle out of claims. I took out a policy with Lessclicksmorecover.com for a recent holiday to Greece after following a link from this website. Unfortunately I fell of my bike whilst there and had to go to hospital to have it stitched up. Lovely hospital didn't charge me at all but I had needed to pay 90euros to get a taxi there and back. I tried to claim this on my insurance and was told it wasn't valid because I hadn't phoned their helpline before incurring the expense. I replied to ask if they were seriously suggesting that whilst stood there with a knee full of grit and blood running down my leg I should have not gone to hospital but instead phoned a call centre?!? Funnily enough they've not even had the courtesy to reply.

I was lucky in that it wasn't a big injury or a big expense but it worries me that you buy this stuff and it doesn't actually help you when you need it.
  • In todays Daily Mail 31st July 2013 - under the letters pages in the financial section the guy who replies on behalf of the Mail in answer to a customer problem ends up by advising not to insure with Insure & Go - don't believe too much I read in the Daily Mail - but that advice is sure correct
  • Recently I purchased a package holiday with JET2.com .I clicked on the link to purchase their recommended insurance with insure and go.When I received the documentation I noticed that they had sold me a policy for people under 66,they clearly knew that I am 67, as my date of birth is shown on the same page.If I had not spotted this and had made a claim no doubt they would have rejected my claim on the grounds that they had mis-sold me an invalid insurance policy.
JET2.com need to think about their connection with a dodgy insurance company such as this.
  • Yes - I have to say in my experience very few claims are successful with these mass travel insurers. The FSA should come down hard on this side of the business as the policies are so full of holes - people do not know what they are signing up to. Scamsters really - but legal. Probably backed by the big firms but with another label on their products so they do not tarnish their 'reputations' ?

I have used Insure & Go for years but never made a claim. When our passports were stolen from a Dublin hotel room we immediately reported it to the theft to the local police but Insure & Go are insisting that we reported the theft after we returned home despite the police report clearly naming the local Garda station and dated on the last day of our holiday. I have tried to point out to them that there are no Garda stations here in England but to no use. I am scared as this policy was taken to cover our next trip abroad and I feel that we will be traveling with a worthless travel insurance policy. What a waste of money !
