    Review Ratings Payment Cancelled, Sorry

    Posted by CBUser on 1/2/2009

Description: Unfortunately the spammers have taken advantage of the bounty payment we offered for rating reviews. There are some users who have rated over 5,000 reviews and it is quite obvious that there was no attempt to actually rate the review properly. As a result we have been forced to cancel the Review Rating payment.

As of this writing our system currently holds almost 260,000 review ratings. The system also holds 20,000 reviews. Some quick math will tell you that each review has an average of 13 ratings. Certainly that should tell you that something isn’t working right!
At this time it is my unfortunate duty to inform you all that we have had to cancel the Review Ratings bounty payment. It is obvious to us that a large number of users are abusing the system and rating reviews without ever even reading the review itself. This leaves us with a dilemma. Do we comb through every review rating to determine which ones are valid and which are not? Or do we just delete the whole mess and start over?
Unfortunately for those of you who were rating member reviews in good faith the abusers have overwhelmed our system’s capability of handling the spam. As a result we will not be making any payments for review ratings alone. In fact, we have deleted all review ratings from our system. Many of you will notice the negative effect that this has had on your earnings at ComparedBy.Us but let me assure you that you will still be paid for the reviews and the referrals that you have submitted. Assuming of course that you are not one of the spammers.
This was a difficult decision for us to make. However, it is one we felt that we had to make in order to ensure that ComparedBy.Us and its legitimate members can survive. We are struggling mightily to cope with the huge influx of spam, plagiarism and cheaters who see ComparedBy.Us as a way to make some quick, easy money. Obviously, we cannot afford to pay out good money for the huge amount of spam that has been entered into our system. If we did, we wouldn’t be around for very long. We wholeheartedly intend to make ComparedBy.Us a successful community that rewards its contributing members on a regular basis. To do that we have to guard against those users who attempt to game the system.
I want to assure everyone that we WILL pay out the review payments for extended, quick and first reviews by January 20th. If you have submitted well written, unique and helpful reviews you WILL be paid.
As of now all review ratings have been removed from our system and review ratings are no longer eligible for bonus payments. The review rating module is still available for use and we are working on a plan to integrate it back into the Member Incentive Plan in a meaningful way. Watch this spot for an upcoming blog post that will ask you guys how you think you should be rewarded for rating other members reviews.
    With regrets:

No it says that review ratings will not be paid, reviews still will be until January 20th.

I can't quite believe I'll get the money. I made $20 yesterday in a couple of hours, just thinking of great books that I'd read nad great music I like, and finding that almost none of them had reviews - so I wrote extended reviews of each, which gets you $2 a pop. Seems way too generous to last as a site. I forsee a big restructure and much smaller payments.

Yes I agree! I think after that January 20th deadline they've set there will be a lot of changes in the money they offer for reviews. Perhaps over time though they may have all the kinks ironed out and then be able to offer a higher rate again.

What's this about the 20th? I know that's when they proces payments, have they said something else about that date?

Oh sorry maybe that's my misunderstanding then. I read it as they were only paying up until the 20th but maybe it means they will be paying on the 20th as normal.

Can't post any reviews right now, the site seems to be having a bit of a fit!

For a start, capital letters and punctuation would help. I have been reading through Dooyoo lately, and seriously, the standard of written English lately is appalling.

No matter where you are writing reviews, and how long they are, a minimum standard of written English should be evident. This includes capital letters (especially for I) correct punctuation (it is I've, not ive, conversely, an apostrophe is NEVER used for the plural).

Remember, you're hoping to get paid for these - surely you shouldn't expect to get paid for shoddy work.

DISCLAIMER - this is a general comment, and not aimed at the OP at all, it's just that post that happened to attract my attention and focus my thoughts. Thanking you.

I love reading your posts on this thread, as your comments make you appear wise and masterful (this is meant as a compliment) :o
I have visions of someone bearing a likeness to Brad Paisley (Mmmm) sitting upon a horse!:rotfl:

But to be serious now, I have to agree with what you are saying; this is not intended to be a 'get-rich-quick' scheme, and people should not be expecting to be paid for shoddy work- whereby they fail to follow simple grammar and punctuation.

Sometimes when I read posts on this forum, I find myself trying to interpret what a person may be trying to say, yet not being 100% sure if my interpretation is exactly what they were trying to get across.

I understand now that Bruffy Boy is not simply copying and pasting straight from Wikipedia, and that he simply double-checks his facts, and it would be wonderful if other users were to have the same desire to write a good quality review. Perhaps others may not necessarily go to the same effort, by using the 'magic formula', but an attempt surely wouldn't go amiss?
