    Hi Lula-Hula

Can you add me to your ever-growing list please. I'm not a great spender of clothes anyway, truth be told, but I know I do spend over £100 per year so any saving I can make on my part is best in my pocket. Here goes, in for a penny and all that ........................ wish me luck !
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.

Hi CurlyTop & welcome to the circus :D , Ill add you on as soon as I 've posted this.

Pandapaws - have no fear, we'll come & get you  & I think you might need to drag me back over to the elctricity challenge as my home seems to have grown more red lights again  .

    Everyone -

I've put the total we start with after your name & membership number on page 1 & each time you confess I will enter the amount left in another pretty colour... unless anyone can think of a better way of doing it ?

Thanks to everyone for the clothes tips & good to know that there will be 'supervisors' watching us.

It would be great if everyone also declared any clothes they've acquired through swapping etc... I dont actually want to stop 'having' clothes :o , I just dont want to spend much on them. Avoiding shops is absolutely the best way of not buying & I reckon the only items I will actually need this year are a few t shirts for the summer & when I get back to my usual pre-giving up smoking weight I intend to treat myself to a new pair of fabby jeans . . . no need to worry yet though

    I wonder who's going to buy first ... ?

    Good luck
    Lula xx
  • Ooh this is a good idea - I'm not sure if it will be possible, but I think exlcuding shoes/accessories/underwear is a must too :)
Did prompt me to add up my clothing spends in 2008. OH DEAR.
Excluding untraceable cash transactions and ebay purchases, it still comes to £619.03
So I think I will dig out that spending diary, and join you guys! So add me to your list PLEASE!

I also promise to clear out my massive, overflowing wardrobe and ebay lots of things - anyone know of cheap listing days?!
    :money:

Last year spent approximately £50.00 on clothes and that included a pair of shoes (sale £25.00), holdups (cheaper than tights as they do not give and ladder as much) and underwear (sale). Have all the skirts I need for work, ditto trousers and tops. Caroline Ahearn said that she refused to pay more than £10.00 for any item - I agree! Tragically, a favourite pair of comfy weekend trousers gave up the ghost - cost £5.50 in the sale and lasted 4 years. Have replaced with £3.00 Asda sale bargain. I don`t care about fashion and only look respectable for work. Need a coat though, as £4.00 sale bargain bought 6 years ago has begun to fray and I only have the one. Fruitless search in the sales - I`m not paying £25.00 plus!

Morning, thanks CurlyTop i will do that later when thrkids are quiet! Looking over our finances this morning were shocked to find we are living over hubbys wages( which vary monthly) so we decided i am going to do the challenge for all of us.
TBH hubby should just need shorts for the summer, he is in his uniform 13 out of 14 days anyway and has plenty of clothes! He just bought two pairs of casual trousers from Asda for £4 each instead of £16 and a jumper for £3!(counts as last yr tho!).
My baby has tons of clothes, and my 3 yr old, my 6 yr old will need some summer stuff in the next size but i don't need to buy too much as hes mainly in his school uniform. DS2 is starting school this year (!) so will need to buy sweatshirts but will try to buy 2nd hand as they are 50p and new ones are £8!
Shoes will be our main expense as Evan will be walking soon and DS2 will need school shoes, daps etc so i'm glad shoes aren't included or that would eat my whole budget!Luckily i don't wear many shoes, i have one pair of trainers and one pair of shoes and that's it!

    .....but I haven't spent any money :j:j:j

I returned trousers to New Look +£10 on my card to use next month once I know what the balance is, as I have returned other things too so it should be well in credit.

Returned items to M&S +£42.04. Got trousers for £17 (Reduced from £39.50) so total of +£25.04 for me. I was on my way out of the shop and saw a nice dress for £9 (Reduced from £35) which was £8.81 with the VAT discount, so I got that too which leaves me with £16.23 on an M&S giftcard, which I will use for clothes or food through the year.

I also bought a new cardigan today, but this was something that my mum ordered me to buy and told me that she would pay for, so it has cost me nothing as well.

I wandered through my local shopping centre, and went to the River Island and Wallis sales, but didn't buy anything as I just kept thinking of this challenge! I didn't want to be the first person to spend money :rotfl:

If I'm tempted to spend money on clothes already it's going to be a long year!!!

    Fantastic flying friesian :D

What a brilliant start to your challenge, I have a £15 m & s gift card to add in to my funds but as I'm refusing to buy anything until I've lost that pesky stone  it should be safe for a while. I was also given £55 in cheques but I'm going to pay those into my savings/emergency fund toward the holiday rather than add it to the clothes fund.... for now anyway ;)

    Hi everyone

I'm a new joinee (from the single and skint forum), dragged over here by Lula ;)

I've joined the challenge because even though I hate shopping, I've spent a lot of money (prob near £500) this year because of my new job. Well, my job ain't so new any more, so I don't need any more clothes! Should be an interesting year...

Lula - hit me with a membership number and I'll update my siggy :p
£27k (excluding interest) paid off in 29 months
    Finally debt free!
  • Hi Lula

Can you count me in please. I have buying clothes as one of my forbidden items in the 100 day challenge (until 20th April) but I have got LOADS of clothes and shoes, so many that I am actually going to include EVERYTHING (oh yes, shoes, bags, accessories, underwear, even tights)

I have £15 in Monsoon vouchers and £5 in John Lewis vouchers (left over from a rather big haul that I got when I left my last job - I went on a voucher spree today, it was blooming fabulous)

The only significant buy that I can see coming up is a jacket to go with a dress that I got in the sales (£145 reduced to £39 - amazing) pre-challenge for a few weddings this year (darn it I forgot about that when I re-signed up for the 100 day challenge)

Hmm anyway, enough rambling from me, please count me in (I don't have room in my siggy but I will confess on here and keep a tally)
