How does this one work, do you come on to the thread when you've bought something and tall all then deduct from your total?

I'm going to be doing that - I find that "confessing" makes me less likely to spend :D
  • Much as I have way too many clothes, I think this might be a step too far for me... :o

Good luck to those of you who embark on this challenge - I shall be following this thread with interest!

Just a quick thought - why not have a rootle through your clothes and see if there's stuff in there you've grown fed up of, but which is still good quality - perhaps not even worn very much, and stick it on ebay? I have a friend who is immaculately turned out, who buys and sells nearly everything she wears through ebay. She looks fab, but I bet her annual 'spend' on clothes is around the £100 mark, as she simply re-uses the ebay cash she's earned.

The other thing would be to try a 'bring and swap' session with friends - various ways of doing this, ranging from a shared rummage through to a properly organised swap event, with price tags on items and everyone making a bit and spending a bit.

As I'm a skinflint, I won't be doing the challenge - it's about my normal spend anyway. Clothes last a lot longer than you might think - I think that its sheer boredom that sends people out to the shops. I hate shopping, and end up just wandering around thinking - 'Well, what do I need that for? I've already got t-shirts (or jumper/dresses/skirts) at home' - I pick things up, then put them back.

All the best to you guys, though - I'll be watching the challenge with interest. The best piece of advice I can offer is not to go to the shops - its amazing how you don't know you want something until you see it hanging on a rail or read about it in a magazine...

I'm also going to "confess" here when I buy something and have also added a little total to my signature.. so when I buy clothes (or get my parents to buy me them - just as bad!) I'll update my signature and post here too.

Mandragora the swap session is a great idea- my sister came for xmas and brought a top which is too big for her as she's lost weight, whereas i've got post baby weight still so it fitted me and swopped it for a shirt that doesn't fit and i never wore anyway - so i now feel like i have a new top for nothing!

As i live in jeans and my two pairs are falling to bits i'm glad i bought a £12 pair from M&S now, before the challenge started - just need to lose a stone and i'll fit into the 11 pairs i've got in the attic lol! I will just do me and not the kiddies thought as i have three youngsters and would never be able to keep track of it all, but they don't need much anyway - its just me who needs willpower not to buy them things just because i like them!

I'll confess all on here too. If I disappear from the thread, please hunt me down as there's a good chance that it's because I'm being tempted by beautiful bargains.

Gutted to realise that it started today - I could have bought sooooooo much stuff yesterday if I'd realised :rotfl:

Going to add it to the sig now, then it's stuck with me until I forcibly delete it. If anyone sees it deleted, kick me up the backside!

    Hi Dobs

You can add a signature by either going in through 'User CP' or 'Quick Links' thread at the top and click on edit signature. Hope this helps (and that I've remembered correctly !).
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.
