    Morning lovely people :D ,

glasgowgirl - you're in so a big welcome to you & good luck with the cold turkey
shelby161 - nice to know that you're watching over us  & please dont feel you need to lurk because you're not actually doing the challenge - it's great to have company along the way :D

NO-BRAIN - sometimes it is easier to 'go it alone' when making changes to your lifestyle - particularly if you're going to be mocked by others for trying. I have every faith in you, particulalry if you've already quit the smoking. Well done on that :A I did that last year which does have something to do with some of the weight I put on ; the first 10lbs maybe ... the other 10 are just down to me being greedy & lazy  :o .

Love the sound of sparkly prom dress ... sadly it would not fit in with my current lifestyle, I have peknty of pretty sparkly things for when it changes though :D . My elder DD is great at buying clothes & we were the same size so I used to get all her cast offs that she was bored with... they no longer fit so another good reason to lose the weight.

Day2 of detox & oddly I'm not very hungry .... for apples, but DDs toast & marmite smelled divine

going to add glasgowgirl in now so see you later

  • Hi everyonexx

Hi GlasgowGirl, welcome aboard :D - this thread is greeaaaat!!! :D

I've found it really makes me think about spending and whether an item is worth buying or not and how long it will last for the price

Lula! I found £19 of M+S vouchers during my declutter and I am going to buy something nice with them and maybe put some money towards it. I would like a nice top of some new jeans if I can find some that fit and are decent in there :D

NO-BRAIN - I started to 100 day challenge in the way you spoke about, no one thought I would stop buying cosmetics and skincare and buying from QVC because I bought so much and got into so much debt. Well I started, found it difficult, kept going, got used to it and started to tell some people quietly and celebrated how I was doing on the thread :D This helped me more than derision from others!

Good luck Lula for the detox. And just think of all the clothes you'll be able to buy at the end of challenge. (or maybe just water as you're on a detox :rotfl: )

    Thanks lula and fedupandskint,

Its nice to have support and i'll look forward to quietly celebrating how well I've done and telling people how much I've spent, and hopefully will adopt new spending patterns instead of reverting to my old ways!!!

100 day challenge fedup-whats that, or is it exactly what it says on the tin?

Lula, my daughters 6 so no chance of getting any hand-me-downs from her unfortunately :( Do you workout? I found when I gave up smoking (the last time) -I ate too much and put weight on, whereas this time I'm not putting any weight on as my lifestyle has changed since the last time I tried) I work out mon-fri first thing everyday, which helps with this challenge as I have to plan what I'm wearing the night before or I get out of the shower and find i've forgotten my pants-trust me its happened!! I need to eat as I need energy for gym but because I work out my body naturally craves things such as apples, but will allow the marmite on toast too  . It's not a pleasant idea for many people, but one that I find works-or is it your idea of torture??

so my philosophy is gonna be, i'm not buying it unless i absolutely love it, its worth its price and can be worn in at least 3 different ways thus hopefully making my purchases much more thought out and hence spending less!!

Prudence- You're not really gonna spend loads of money at the end of the challenge are you??

part of me thinks I'll go without spending frivolously for so long that a big splurge at the end will be a nice reward/treat but the better part of me is hoping I'll learn a lesson from the challenge and change my wicked ways!!

Good luck to all, and also to Lula for detox and thanks for the great idea :D
  • Right, I suppose I better 'fess up, :o as I'm now officially doing this challenge.

So far this year I have spent £17 on a lovely blue winter coat - I needed a new one. It was already reduced but missing most of its buttons so I asked for a further discount, and they reduced it by half again. When I got it home I found that some helpful soul had put all the missing buttons in the pocket:rotfl:.
I've also already blown the contingency fund  (well all but 1p of it :D) on a dress for a friends wedding.

NO-BRAIN I don't think I'll be telling anyone I'm taking part in this challenge especially my shopping buddies. Lula good luck with the detox! :A

I'm off to add this challenge to my signature and possibly learn to sew.
  • My total needs reducing now.....bought some lovely tops (bargain at £4.50 for 2), another top for £8.08, and some jogging bottoms for the gym for £16 :)

That should keep me going for a bit....and its my birthday in a couple of months so if i need any more clothes i can ask for them as presents so they won't count lol!

i have to deduct £ from my £97... my mum bought a polo neck jumper from Asda which was a little bit tight for her... i endeavoured to take it back and get her a larger size but there were none, so i bought it off her instead. Bargain £6 and it's a staple that i will wear a lot... new total £91.00...... doing alright so far!!
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....
    (it's part of my charm!)
  • I can't fit everything in my wardrobe unless half my clothes are in the ironing basket. I can't include my son on this though because he grows like a weed. I am going to offer the clothes that he out grows to friends though. He's a head taller than most of them. Good luck everyone.

I could... but in my world tights count as underwear so are you sure

    CurlyTop - I shall reinstate your £100 immediately :D

One of my friends is moving away next week, and mentioned she'd been sorting through her wardrobe. I asked her if she had any clothes she didn't want as I would have them, and she said she'd just given 5 bags to charity  GUTTED.
