Now if they had underpaid you what would you have done? If it had been £10 or £20 I would not have bothered me but £450 is a lot to be overpaid. I,d feel to guilty and have to return it or enquire about it. better than being redfaced having to return it.0

Some years ago, a high st bank gave us our usual weekly bag of money containing £250. One week it contained £2500 instead. It was only the float for our small shop, so wasn't required till the end of the week. My wife returned the lot, immediately she opened the bag, but 4 days after being handed the bag.
She was sat down in an office at the bank, the police were called and, after 2 or 3 hours, she was released. The reason? The cops said that some naughty people were putting money in, taking out and so on, hoping that a bank error would occur, in their favour. Contrast this with the number of transactions I have to make to make full use of my e-saver account, where cheques have to go via my current account, and then back again in order to pay a bill.
Bye the way, my wife was given a box of chocolates for being so honest!!!!!!0 -
I've had several bank errors in my favour (about 100 a throw). I've chosen to retain them all.
I feel bad as the individual may suffer (as I would if I made errors in my job), but the organization couldn't give 2 hoots about me* so why would I worry about them?
* Used to... now they appear to want to keep me happy most of the time!saving, saving, saving!0 -
I'm sure they dont think twice about snapping up peoples savings and paying peanuts of 2% interest.4kw PV system with Samsung panels x 16 and Sunnyboy TL4000,South,30 degrees pitch,Nottingham0

Ready to pay out £2500 without notice and would charge for a cheque??0 -
The banks can go and @%&* their mothers. Keep the money. They were going to charge you for a cheque. If they then screw up the cash payout they only have themselves to blame. The cashier will get disciplined regardless.0

Its cash, so, they wouldn't know whether it went to you, or some other guy.
Chances are someone may get some disciplinary, but its a bank error!
Are you sure you didn't have £3000 in your savings???
Monopoly: Bank error in your favour, collect £450.
I transferred around £3K from KE to my bank account when they had problems. That £3K and an extra £3K appeared in my account a few days apart. Luckily I did not keep quiet as around 1 1/2 weeks later, received letter from Ernst + Young demanding the £3K back, or legal proceedings. Luckily I had contacted KE before this letter  and had transferred this back into KE account for them to take back.
Now I wonder how many people have been double paid by KE and wonder how many letters KE (ING)/Ernst + Young sent out to recoup their losses / error? It seems they take forever to give money back, but quick in issuing these letters and dropping interest rates.0 -
Yes it might be fun in thinking the bank has gotten what they deserved after bank charges etc etc etc but this is about an individual - the cashier - not about the big bank who i do believe wont give a hoot except to take it out on the cashier.
Depending on the cashiers situation at work, this could have been the last error they have made because they have now had a disciplinary and lost their job! I have seen it happen. Be honest please.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -
