Part of the Furniture 100 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!
I've got another question re crb's - sorry!!!

I've been offered a job in the DWP - start Monday - CRB check done and fine.

My only question is - I had an interview for another gov dept last Friday who I REALLY want to work for - they enclosed a CRB form to fill in with my interview letter and I put a note on it and filled it in saying I have just had this done with DWP. I enclosed the actual CRB certificate and the reference number on the form.

Do you think if I am offered a job in the other gov dept they will have to undertake another CRB - or is the DWP one suffice?

    Thanks in Advance
  • i have just heard that i have been successful today. my letter does not mention the waiting list. i got the crb form to complete - they sent this twice so i have 2 of them (doh!)

i think i will ring them as its 2 different people who have sent each crb so i need to know which one to send back and which one to bin.

they also asked for my consent to contact named referees but i have not received a references form to give this info and inmy original application i have not named anyone - if they just send a reference request to a manager it will go all round the houses  or should i expect a seperate references form int he post to complete?

my assessment test scores also were sent twice

at this point i am assuming i am not on a waiting list as they havent said that to me, is there a chance they might say that to me after they do all my crb etc?

im a recruiter im there everyday lol!!
well it depends on how many vacancies there are and how far down the list you are as they may only want 10 but are checking 20! which is ok if you are numbers 1-10 but after that your relying on people failing the checks!

generally though at the minute even if you aren't part of the first intake there's more than likely gonna be more positions coming up!

don't let that stop you applying for other positions on the website though as your only on the waiting list for one position - it doesn't mean you will be considered for other positions like many people think!

EDIT: they will phone you once your checks are back to say whether you'll get a job or be placed on a waiting list

I was told when I got the waiting list letter that few people had joined in, then after 3 weeks I got this letter which included the CRB Form, urgent info asking about referees & what I could supply regarding my previous jobs...then I got a letter regarding info about a period of six months when I was not working...so they wanted to know if I had registered with JC Plus & if they could contact them....etc.....so what does it mean that vacancies have come after the first intake.....lol......you are recruiter & this means that you will be troubled with all type of questions...also the line manager told me if my papers are in order they may not contact my refrees.......
  • it all seems like a lot of pullava doesnt it!! so they do the checks THEN tell you if you are on a waiting list?

they certainly want a lot of information - i had to provide loads at the interview too.

i cant see them not contacting referees though - surely that is mandatory?!!

I found out recently that I was successful at interview stage for AO. I have now completed and sent off my CRB form and given evidence of my past employment (payslips etc). The letter that I received did not mention anything about a waiting list. Am I to assume that there are 2 different letters, one stating you are on a waiting list and the other simply saying you were successful and please complete the crb form etc?

Yes i believe you are right in saying this - im on waiting list but both letters do state that you're succesful - the waiting list 1 is they'll contact you when they need you for a job in near future and the one with crb forms probably want you for the job for first intake or a job starting soon so want to get the checks done or just get your checks done so its out of way and you can be ready for the next post available!

Hi all, what follows is what has happened to me so far...

I applied for a job as an Administrative Officer as part of the North West DWP recruitment drive in late Jan 09/Feb 09. I was notified that I had successfully completed the initial application process after about a month and that I would be required to take the literacy and numeracy tests at the Manchester City Stadium on the 17th Feb 09.

Quite a lot of people had their tests that day and more were to follow in the afternoon. 3000 people applied for the job of Administrative Officer in this region and 770 made the sift cut. The tests were fairly straightforward and after about 15 minutes waiting we were put out of our misery. I got my name called out third (luck of the draw or merit order?) and my pack told me I had an interview on the 27th of February at 3.45pm. Also in the pack were the CRB forms and Health documents and I was asked to bring a passport and proof of address. I filled in all the relevant forms and brought them along to the interview with me. At the reception a kind lady checked my forms for me and photocopied and certified my passport photo and evidence before I was called away to the interview room with two other DWP staff to interview me.

The interview was fairly relaxed and they had set questions to ask which followed fairly accurately what was described on the guide I received on the day I passed the tests. I answered the questions fairly well drawing on my experience at Work and at University and it all took about 20 minutes.

I was able to ask a few questions and my first was naturally "When do I find out if I was successful or not?" Answer "We'll try and notify you by the week starting 9th March" next question "How many job vacancies are there?" Answer "We cover quite a large area here in the North West and as you can see by current events we are experiencing quite a recruitment drive to cope with rising unemployment so there are a good number of vacancies." I asked another question about where I would be placed in the North West and she said that travel was taken into consideration where possible....Afterwards one of the ladies who interviewed me took me back to reception to double check they had all my forms and information and that was that.

I received my test results back for future reference so I don't have to take the tests again unless I apply for a post above the level of Executive Officer. This means I exceeded the score expected of an Administrative Officer I'm guessing but I was baffled as the results only had a Numeracy score on the sheet and it said my result was 11!

Hopefully I will have made the top percentile of performers at Interview and Test scores and I'll be offered a job next week depending on CRB etc which is a formality.

    Anyone else similar experiences?
