DWP employment waiting list

  • I have spoken to 2 people today, 1 from my local BDC and the other from Newcastle. Both have told me to look elswhere for a job as I could be in for a very long wait with no guarantee of there ever being a job at the end or once this 'pause' is over.

My local BDC are looking into a 'pilot' scheme of extending their working hours to 8pm. The idea is on 'PAUSE' at the minute too......
But from what I gather they will be going through the list of people who have received success letters to offer us a part-time contract of 4pm-8pm. If we accept this then we would be expected to honour it till March 2010 (when contract ends) - we would be excempt from any full-time positions during that time. Which means that if there are full-time jobs available if/when this 'pause' is lifted, we wouldn't be considered and would have to re-apply after March should there be another recruitment drive !!

So it has now gone from full-time jobs for 18 month fixed contracts to part-time ones for 6 month contracts !! So basically to help them through Xmas and then say thank you for the last 6 months, you can go now.

Not happy at all with this whole process and how it has made me feel and re-acted to people, especially sammyjammy. This was going to be my fresh start after the sh*tty last 4 years I've had.....but alas it's not. It's just another experience I've gone through that will hopefully put me in good stead when things finally turn for the better.

I wouldn't want to tell you all what to do but I sincerley believe you'll all be better off ramping up your efforts looking elsewhere for a job. I just feel sorry for those of you who have handed your notice in and hope that you find something really quick.

    Good luck to you all.

Oh well. At least I've learned a lot about public sector recruitment. It's a shame Labour will be gone in a few months anyway because Yvette Cooper needs to be sacked for this.

Thanks for letting us have this info, Richy. First time anyone has been told about part-time hours:confused:

They are really a law unto themselves.

    Good luck

I know you're relatively local to me so you might have seen the adverts for exactly those hours in our region. In fact I even have a "successful" letter from one of them, for Halifax.

These were specifially for roles in Crisis Loans which apparently are having to extend their hours because of their workload in West Yorkshire.

Maybe those will be the only vacancies they will be setting people on now in West Yorks then:confused:
