Not looking forward to the deciding what to wear part.
I wore jeans everyday in my last job.

I checked this before I started so have been like this from day one. Everyone else turned up in a suit :D

"Smart casual". This means no jeans or trainers and T-shirts with logos.

T shirts are ok if they have a small logo on the chest pocket area for example, but a big "BENCH" (for example) across the chest is a no-no.

    It's pretty relaxed.

As far as dress code goes...

I think smart casual means tie optional for men. I'd be absolutely gob smacked if you were allowed to wear a t-shirt to work in JCP...logo or not. I've yet to see any of the male staff wearing one.

We were told "No Denim!", ties are optional,

I'd be ok with a shirt and trousers, had to wear a suit in my last job and it got uncomfortable in the summer.

The job before that was in HMRC and as you did not have any contact with customers, you could wear almost whatever you wanted with the exception being no mini skirts for women and no shorts for anyone, but 3/4 lengths were ok. There were a few moshers working there too and they came in in all the mosher stuff.

Wow, I'm so glad i came across this thread. I had some questions i was hoping someone may be able to answer as i have my assessment this week.

I've applied for the role of Administrative Officer.

It's been almost a year since i was last in employment and i'm really nervous about the interview process, can anyone take a few moments out to answers some questions?

    1. What exactally does the assessment entail ? I've been told it's numeracy and literacy - how many questions are you asked in total ? Just as an indication, what kind of questions are they ? (Just wanted an example, not asking anyone to aid and abeit me !!!)

    2. If i get to the interview phase, how is it run ? Is it one on one? What kind of questions are you asked ? I'm doing some prep work by polishin up my knowledge of the job centre and how it works, is there anything else i should be looking at ?

    3. What does the admin officer role involve on a day to day basis ? The application back doesn't go into a lot of specifics

I am so incredibly desperate to get back to work and having worked in customer services and office roles in the past, i think this postion will suit me well. If anyone can give a little advice or guidance, i would really really grateful

    Thanks

1 - I was under the impression my test was going to be numeracy/literature as well but it turned out to be completly different, it was an online test which consisted of a number case studies, and you answer questions which consisted of maths, observation, and decision making.

2 - You can forget about learning the history of dwp and how it operates, theres only going to be FOUR questions asking about your past experiences which consist on various competencies - They will inform you before the interview which competencies you will be asked about.

3 - answer that one when i actually start!!

There's lots of useful info on this thread
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1315527

    1. You will either be sent a link to an online test or invited to do literacy/numeracy tests.
The online test requires you to read some information and then answer questions about it. Some questions check your comprehension skills, some are maths (mainly %s) and some ask how you would respond in a certain situation.
There is a lot of info about the numeracy and literacy tests in the thread I have linked to. For the literacy, you are asked to find 15 mistakes in a passage of text. For the numeracy, there are 20 multi-choice questions which require you to pick put the required information from that given and then do a bit of maths (again, lots of %s) to get the correct answer.

    2. If invited for interview, you will be asked 4 competency questions. Lots of info on that thread.

Ok, so disclosure scotland is sending back my check now... what's the next step? What happens when they contact my references, what will they do? - they only have emails so do they send them a form or something??

They won't necessarily contact your referees. I think if they can verify your job history for the last 3 years (through tax office?) then they probably won't bother.

If you get the DS certificate sent to you from DS then you need to forward it to Newcastle DWP. If it goes straight to DWP then they will send it on to you afterwards. So, when you receive it in the post, check where it has come from.

So, you'll probably just be waiting for a call which may happen quickly or may not ....

Hello all. I'm still on the waiting list :( And can't find many other jobs here so on a downer. Had a little more info on my position though, anyone know if it's worth reading into?

I got my letter about being on a waiting list on the 12th of July. Rang up Newcastle and found out I was placed 31st on the list. 25 went through first, so 6 away from the looks of it. However, I also had an Email on the 29th from SHSVCS resourcing urgently requesting my Disclosure Scotland form so instantly scanned and emailed back. Normal practice, or keeping me in mind?

    Obviously praying for the latter.
