Thanks Splodz, Cathy, michelle, Stressed and Ricky, thanks for all your suggestions!!

Just went to find the list of names of products i've already tried for the insomnia!

Firstly, tried hot baths, writing my worries down before bed, massages. etc, these just relax me and calm me down after a stressful day, but do NOT make sleep come.

Can't have milky drink stressed, as got allergy to milk, and soya milks are...eugh...shockingly horrid for my taste!!
Tried hot chocolate that you add water to...just makes me bloated...gives me hiccups...makes me stay awake even more!!

I was thinking Prince Charming, can you do anything like this?

That ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free ;)
  • Thanks for all the ideas. I am not sure how broad the school definition of a fairytale character is, whether nursery rhymes and film characters are ok, so think I will play it safe. Don't want him feeling out of place, dreadful when you are six and he has enough problems to do with losing his mum as it is.

I may go with Puss in Boots, sure we have a cat mask somewhere and wellies, or a Prince. I have every Princess costume ever thought of in the dressing up box, Goldilocks is tempting! I do have a lovely cape and some specs so considered Harry Potter, but like I said, not sure whether school would accept that?

Anyone with little boys with any other ideas please let me know as I won't be dealing with it until Sunday.

Tried kalms orignal herbal tablets from holland and barrett, had no affect on me!!
nytol one a day made me have a proper nights sleep for the first few days...then stopped working!!!
Painkillers knock me out too...but few years ago, i took overdose of 13 paracetamols...so gp doc says i'm not allowed them now!!
He said...he'l give them to me when he feels i need them...as my body could become addicted to it!!
But, bought them myself from boots/bodycare for joint pain, not insomnia, but took pain away, but i was still left awake!

Doc said, he'll prescribe melatonin, as thats replaces the natural things that make you sleep, and is better for my body!
It is long capsules with powder in it...bin taking it religiously for about 5 months...no change at all!!!
Taken it different ways too, from swallowing capsule hole to stirring the powder into a glass of water, but nothing works!!

  • Sally, it is Tryptophan which is active in milk and helps you sleep, and it is also found in nuts, bananas, turkey and red meat. Turkey is meant to be particularly high in it. Perhaps using these in your evening meal may tip the balance. An evening routine is often helpful in preparing your mind and body for rest, and exercise, even a brisk walk can be effective.

I hope you find something which helps you soon. It is obviously affecting your daily functioning so it is important to address the issue, and it may well end up that the doctor is your best help. Otherwise there is always company on here!
