  • WOW where abouts in the country do you live? That is a fab income, we don't get any where near that much. Thats a great deal of money to have left over, i am jelous xx
  • Hey smarties, i dont live anywhere fancy, just in the lake district!!!! am a qualified nurse working in a private nursing home so am on slightly more an hour than if i was in the nhs. I work 12 hour shifts so do 33 hours over 3 days (or more if its available) which helps as wouldnt get that income if i had to do them hours on 7-8 hours a day.

I wont have that left over soon as am having to get a new car. The "family" car is draining money faster than its diesel. Put it through its mot a month early as have the extra cash this month and it has FAILED!!!!!!!! will cost over £500 to fix (which is sooo bad seen as we just forked out over £250 on it when it broke down) and my fella's friend (who owns the garage) has told us to get rid asap as he has never seen a vauxhall cost so much in the space of a year (if we fixed it this time we would have spent over £1500 on it in a year, and am only really going to get £1300 in part ex) so am off to look at a new car today. Means adding to the debt but in the long run it will save us money as our car isnt worth it and will just be throwing money at it with no return.

but looking at the soa i am in a better postion than i thought i was due to all the decreases in the bills. may even be able to throw an extra £100 a month at the debts even after borrowing money for the car!!!! but will wait and see before i commit myself as i rarely have so much cash left over each month!

  • well i am a very happy but naughty rags........we have bought a new car and therefore added £6k on to the total debt!!!! happy we have a new car but a little cross that we have added to our debt.

so my plan now is to pay off the credit cards and the mil by the end of next year. this is my new target then i will only have the sofa's, loan and the car to pay off. cant make overpayments on the car but can save the money in an account and pay it off in full when i have enough money.

am going to list some stuff on ebay today and try and get that mountain of stuff going.............still doing my free scratcheez and one is nearly at a tenner, gonna check on quidco and see what no spend cashback there is available. we are also running the freezer down this week so we can fill it up next week..............

  • Rags, don't feel guilty! I think you've done the right thing. It's pointless keeping a car on the road if it's just one thing after another. I think I would have recommended that but wasn't sure how you would have felt about extra debt! We did the same with our Punto, every month something around £200 went wrong. So we got a brand new Chevrolet on 0% interest for £130 a month instead. I know I have to pay £130 a month, but at least I KNOW I have too... and nothing can go wrong with it.

Good luck with Ebay... personally, I'm putting it off! Eek!

2020 the year of less - Less debt, less waste, less spending, less stuff, less stress!
  • O.k. my new challenge is set and in my signature. Have worked out that i need to pay at least £470 a month to the 3 cc's and the MIL (am currently paying £350 or so to these) to meet my target.

So any extra money will be going to pay these off, through overtime and ebay (when i finally get round to listing) and scratcheez and quidco and anything else i can find to make me money............

Am still keeping a tally of how much i have paid off this year as my motivator! makes me feel better knowing how much i have paid off.......even if i keep adding to the total debt.

so heres to the start of my new challenge..................................
