  • Hey hun, with my total debt ticker, i have taken the amounts that are on my statements so any interest is already included. I add up the totals and subtract the amount owed from the first total and get how much has actually been paid off.

    Does that make sense????

.......going to seriously work on my fella so we can shift these debts, he always agrees and says he wants rid so we can get the nice things with saving but it seems its me doing all the overtime and giving things up. He just isnt trying and keeps finding things he suddenly needs!!!! not sure how to go about though without seeming like his nagging girlfriend trying to be his mum!!!

Rags, I have the same problem. My DH leaves it all to me, then asks for things I haven't budgetted for. I have pinched an idea from Movetoportugal of regular budget meetings with him. He has agreed, and we had our firtst one this week, although I am still taking more control than him, which is frustrating, but I hope it will get him more in the right frame of mind. So next time he asks for something,I will ask him, where we are shaving the money from elsewhere on the budget and see what he says. There is a fine line between nagging and contructive comment. It is all in the delivery!

  • Hello everyone, i am feeling slighlty smug at the moment as i have managed to get my outfit sorted for the wedding tomorrow for.....................................£6!!!!!!!:D:D:D

Found a nice creamy top with gold and black detail on one shoulder in George at asda!!!! Then rooting through my wardrobe for inspiration at what to wear today i found a pair of white jeans i bought for a wedding last year when pregnant. They are a size 14 and hipster so they fitted under my bump. Well they are a smidge big now but with a thin belt are perfect (skinny flares so make legs look really slim and long;)) and also found some white wedges (from new look so nice height) that i also bought for the last wedding. so dont need to buy much else!!!! Just need to get a few accessories (need a goldy type belt to wear on my hips to seperate the top and jeans) and having my friend put my hair up in the morning. (feel this is justified as outfit so cheap!!!!) Might treat myself to some false nails as really dont have time or the nail varnish to paint mine.

This mixed with a few other tops i already have will do for the next 2 wedding i have after tomorrow!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

If only getting dressed each day was as easy as this!!!!

Rags, I told him that not feeling in control is way more stressful, which it is. There is nothing worse than worrying about how you are going to pay for things and not knowing if your card will work in a shop. This did the trick. Someone suggested giving him a small budget of "his own money" and challenging him to save some for a family treat, think it was Shaun, I am not sure about this myself, because it seems like treating him like a child. Then again he does behave like one!;)

The first "budget meeting" was more like me telling him how things are, the next one, I want to give him some responsibility for working out a few things. I think the key is you have to end on a positive, like "if we can do this, we can have that" sort of way. And, "if we can get debt below £xxx, we are never going past that milestone again" :D

Wedding outfit sounds fab rags!!! Sometimes it does all just come together!!

I definitely agree with MissKJ on your OH - from a personal point of view, just sitting down and realising my debt and that i was in control of it made me feel so much less stressed about it. I hope you can get him in that frame of mind!

Look forward to hearing about wedding!!
