Well I've cleared and washed the new work surface in the utility room ready for oiling... I've got boiled linseed oil to put onto it. I don't suppose anyone here knows whether I have to sand it between coats, or rub it with wire wool, or can I just get away with rubbing in oil, letting it dry and repeating until it looks done? I guess I should stop being so lazy and look it up
(((Hugs))) Kaz... hope you and DD can have fun on your own. Maybe you can talk to OH in the new year and find out what's up.
Gryfon - leave the laundry and give yourself a break. You've done HUGE amount of stuff today, and you haven't been feeling great either, so it's an impressive achievement. Just make sure that whatever you DO do, it doesn't create any more work!
It's good to know there are few other people not going out tonight. I'm far too tired, and always find NYE a bit of an anti-climax anyway. I want to use the time to try to get a few things under control, so that I can start the new year on a positive note and do all the things that I should (lose weight, get out more etc..:D )
For those of you who won't be back on today, have a fantastic time. I'll catch the stay at homes later (when I've done something useful!)0 -

All I'm fit for is curling up with a medicinal drink, and nothing too taxing on the tv! I'm not complaining though, everyone else in the house has had revolting colds. DD3 has become a snot monster!
Yuck
DD1, hormonal wretch that she is, has gone to a friend's for the night. So we've got DD2 who's being delightful and DD3 who is always better when Daddy's here. and we're having take out.... not very MSE/budgety but what they heck eh????
DD3 broke the V+ remote today   So I phoned Virgin to get it replaced.... I explained, she has Down's and didn't mean to break it, but the woman I spoke to said nonetheless I'd be charged £20 for the replacement.
Anyway, I was just contemplating calling back to discuss this point further with customer services, when my friend phoned...so I promptly forgot all about it.
However, DH came home, took one look at it and managed to fix it. So I called back Virgin who said,
"oh well, it's been ordered now, so we'll just credit back the charge to your account, but you'll still get a new remote"
Ahh well, I'm not complaining, I'll at least have a spare!!!
Hugs Sarah, hope you all feel better soon, but have a lovely evening all together anyway...
And good news from Virgin too - isn't it sutupid that they will send it out anyway free, but not give you one free in the first place? still, at least it all worked out in the end... good for you...
We had a takeaway last night too - the budget is really starting end of Jan, as wages/catchups will be all back on track by then, but will need to tighten belts just a bit in Jan to get to end of it (why is it such a looooong month?)
Quick question - the piggyback thing - I know when I did mine a while ago there was a spreadsheet on this site that I could put all the totals into and get the best way to pay them back - I have the original one I did a few months ago, but need to update to make sure everything is right, and I can't find it now - do you know how I can???? thanks hun x

Put a pillow in the WM as token effort to evening cleaning, (am officially off duty now) but it has made the washing machine sound funny, first bumpy/bangy noise now shwwwm shzwwwn noise. Only put one in, with a few other bits to stop it banging around but I may have underestimated that it gets heavy when wet.
Didn't want to chuck the pillows so worth a shot, just hop it doesn't hurt my faithful WM.
Off to trawel ebay for furniture, have tried freecycle but ours never really gets any furniture (thanks to whoever suggested that, sorry couldn't find the post again to quote, and thanks for words of encouragement).
Wish I could afford decent stuff, but have been tipped off that our local auction rooms often has cheap furniture, don't want tacky argos/Ikea rubbish so would rather 2nd hand anyway.
OH is asleep, will wake him up a bit later but he's not feeling well (doesn't cope with illness nearly as well as I do, I love our ability as Women to not suffer as much as they do, almost makes up for crippling pains every month!)
Watching scrubs and chilling out with Baileys in my coffee (any one else fancy one?), DS's both sleeping.
Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Doing soup for lunch so as long as I get the bread started by 9 should be fine, might stick all the ingredients in except the water before I go to bed.Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

Worktop oiled... hopefully I'll get another couple of coats on tonight, depending on how it dries. Also oiled a couple of wooden spice racks. Not sure whether I'll use them (I won't for spices, but I might for other stuff... we'll see), but thought I'd oil them anyway, as they're unfinished so it'll help keep them clean.
Must find something to eat, now the house is full of food :rolleyes:0 -
I shall say a quiet...Happy New Year all!
And I'm so close to finishing my chores! Just need to sort the dryer out again and then I think I'm done. Turned the washing machine off at the mains now as I won't been needing that till Friday
BTW anyone want to go out in the cold, around the back of the house to fetch more coal for me?Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!
