Thanks for your suggested answer. I have read online that the Vickers VC10 is no longer a commercial airliner, and the only operators are the RAF? If this is fact, then the Boeing 777 would be the answer. Good luck

Sorry just read your post looks like you are right then and it's no longer commercial.

  • Still not sure about the question 10 - which port city has both the time and the inclination. To get the answer of London by invoking the Big Ben arguement seems a bit obscure to me.

    Anyone got any brainwaves?
  • I spent a good couple of hours last night researching this question, including looking at this site http://www.ports.org.uk/ to get the low-down on 'UK city ports' (I also wouldn't rule out ports in UK overseas territories - Port Stanley in the Falklands kept being thrown up each time I Googled 'UK city port time inclination'!!). I've now entered the comp and plumped for London for Q10, but on the basis of Greenwich, not Big Ben.

I found this question and Q20 (the elephant question) the trickiest in the quiz. After much deliberation I ended up going for option (c) purely on the basis of common sense (and assuming you can find and climb a tree before being trampled to death!), HOWEVER from the research I did, all the other options seem potentially valid. And just out of interest, the BEST way of evading a charging elephant would seem to be to run in a zig-zag pattern away from the animal (if possible at 90 degrees to it's path) on the basis they have notoriously poor eyesight and have difficulty turning at speed.

the elephant one may be answered here

    - trees are only viable if a) they are right beside you and b) you can climb bloomin quick and c) you think you can survive the tree being bashed by a furious jumbo.
  • If you run up a tree make it a very big one - we were on safari in Kenya a couple of years ago and one night all we could hear was elephants trumpeting and pulling up trees, along with the Masai firing shots in the air to scare them off! Three steps to the left does not take you out of their range if you ask me, you can't appreciate how big they are unless you get (a little too!!) close to one, and moving in front of them would offer you up as a threat! So I totally agree with Hard Spend on this one!!

The intrigue which surrounds this competition is the uncertainty bred by speculation. Multi-choice answers put doubt in the mind. Research does not always categorically confirm one way or another. As the closing date nears, the frustration grows, the uncertainty is still there. Answers - sometimes convincingly - are offered; they are considered and probably adopted. Then something seen, heard or read and the sureness is destroyed yet again. So back to research, and ultimately right back to the beginning with confidence dented. Hope is now the only way forward. A prime example is the picture C in question 2. Is it Bilbao,Spain; or Ontario, Canada; or Los Angeles,USA; or none of those? Who can be certain? Who is confident? Who is frustrated? Who is right - and who is wrong?

Ahhhhhhh well, the joys of comping! Good luck everyone

Agreed!! As one of those who has spent a good few hours researching the answers to all 35 questions in this quiz, I'm afraid the last thing I'm going to do is make them available to those who've quite possibly spent only a good few seconds on this forum. Sorry!

    7. What is the largest country in mainland Africa?

    Sudan?

Every individual African country has the same time zone -- so there are no time zones within one country, even in Sudan, which is Africa's largest country.
