    Hi,
    Can I join in again?
It’s been several months since I posted on this challenge and I need to come back into line with my spending as the ‘Credit Crunch’ has affected us severely.
The freezer is full to bursting after some excellent reduced buys over the hols. The store cupboards are ok but not as good as the freezer. I aim to grow lots of vegs this year and have found loads of free seeds attached to old mags.
So at the moment I feel positive and quite up beat. I am going to meet the whole year as a challenge. I have set a realistic monthly budget of £175.00 for food, cleaning and household bits and pieces (the things you can buy at a supermarket). There is just the two of us but we do have to provide several lunches/teas for visitors over the month.
January food 175.00 spent 181.60 oops nothing left. £4000 challenge/3384.49 left
    heating oil £396.69,
    NSD 13/20

    Afternoon all

Nipped to the NAAFI this morning -so my 1st spend of 2009 and of €10.70 looks something like this :-
    • 2.5 kilo pork joint with crackling from €13.97 to €3
    • 6 pack extra special sausages from €2.99 to €1 each
    • 10 slices extra special ham from €4.29 to 70c
    • 4 jackets from €1.89 to 50c
    • 6 large bananas from €1.89 to 50c
Should have been -€39.98  ..so I got a whoopsy saving of €29.28 :j
The pork is wedged in the remoska and once we have had a bit off for tomorrow I will slice n freeze the rest ,
the sausages are in the freezer too, and I will seperate the ham and freeze in 2s in a moment :D

Lunch today was leftover mashed potato/swede and cabbage from yesterday -bubble n squeaked in the remoska and served with the rest of the HM chicken pie from yesterday too:j ...I always enjoy "leftover" meals more than the original meal :p

I have some white bread under way and need to make myself some granary..

Today is my first spend since we got paid on the 22nd..so Im really happy and hoping to keep it as low as possible..
ohhh and my healthier eating plan is back underway...my 1st week and I have lost 5 1/2lbs ...whilst eating proper food :p :j

right of to do some more knitting of xmas pressies :o :rotfl:

Just popping in to update the spends - £38.13 in Mr Ts today. I went bonkers and bought enough fresh fruit and veg to feed a football team (can you tell I'm starting the diet today!?) and other bits for meals for the week.

One or two offers worth reporting....

4 tins of Branston baked beans for £1
Surf Small and Mighty washing liquid £2
loose white grapes on offer (think half price)
Organic kiwi fruit 4 for £1
Pedigree Better by Nature dog food half price (£1.75ish)
Cathedral City Lighter cheese (big block) £2
New York City Bagels buy one get one free

I have mealplanned for the next week or so but may sit down a bit later and try to map out further into the month.

This month its healthy eating AND economising so it'll be a challenge!
Good luck to all and hello to all the newbies!

Just come back from nipping to the co-op for milk, and as usual spent over a tenner, although they have got their new offers on, so first shop of the year and spent £11.15, but their own curry sauce is on offer for 54p a jar so got a couple of them, also coca cola 6pack still on bogof so didn't do too bad (trying to justify that to myself) but have got to kick the bad habits of buying for the sake just cause there is a bargain to be had, even if i don't really need it.
Oh Well another learning curve, better luck tomorrow when i do my big shop from Asda.
    Jan 2025 £26561.43/£0. I want to clear £9000 this year (2025)

Mmmm... I agree. Somehow the flavours seem to develop and blend overnight. It makes batch cooking all the more attractive - not just moneysaving but yummier as well.

You did so well on your whoopsies - is this a record? Oh, and congrats on the weight loss!

It's not marked in my local store but I asked a cashier to check for me. The xmas loo roll in Wilkinsons that was £1.65 for 4 is included in the half price sale so is reduced by 85p to now just 80p. There was tons of it as its not advertised so a good way to stock up on decent loo roll at a good price. Hey, I'm not worried if I have gold stars on my loo roll in June! lol
