Happy new year to all - been too busy to post!!!!...managed my first NSD today, but had to go to Mr S yesterday (the only shop open) to cater for a quick lunch, with my mse head on thought jackets with beans, got 4 spuds = £2.50 couldnt believe it!!!!!
I have split my Jan £150 into weeks so was on my last £5 (due to eating out on pre arranged days out - slapped wrist for me...a fast food place got nearly half my food money in two outings- arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)
.....not too impressed with the price of spuds, up to now havent paid any attention to the price of things, so nearly fell over at the till when she weighed them.....I am sure I was ripped off!!!!
Anyway have no more grocery money til Monday now but will be ok, the money is in the tin ready.
Personally I am finding keeping a list of freezer foods excellent I can just look down my list and see what I have rather than taking whats of the top, so whoever suggested it....THANK YOU!!!!

Just done our 1st shop of the year, only spent £27.25 and this was on milk, 10 bags of cirtrus fruit (should last until Tuesday/Wednesday), ice cream as well restocking our medicine cabinet with paracetamol & Ibruprofen & vitamins as we used masses over the festive period. Additionally picked up some bits for my present cupboard, some for birthdays some for Christmas 2009! but this comes out of a different budget. Also dropped by sisters to pick up some eggs from her chickhens and she gave me some mince pies (I haven't had to buy any all season, she's very generous and it all helps) Off now to make some soup, HM bread and a desert for tommorrow as we have friends over for the weekend.

I have finally caught up with this thread and I will hopefully not so behind again. My next aim is to look through the recipes at the beginning and find a few to try out to put some spark back into our menu. I have also seen a few other links which I would like to follow up, but that will have to wait.

Well My month is going to run from 7th to 7th each month but as this is the first month of changing over to monthly shopping and previously I was working from the 1st to end of each month, I have had to start now.....So really it is an extra week 1st of Jan-7th Feb.
    The cupboards and freezer are pretty bare, and I need to rustle up 4 meals. I have;
    1x Small Chicken - 2 meals
1x bag of frozen lamb cubes - 2 meals
I will only need to buy a bag of spuds to make up the 4 meals.

Tonight we had Cheese and Tomato pasta.....
Large pan of cooked pasta, a carton of passata, diced onion, handful frozen peas, tsp garlic, tsp oregano, tsp basil, tsp sugar - all cooked up together, and then mixed into the pasta. served up with grated cheese on top...everyone commented how lovely it was.

Somerfield have tea-bags on offer, 160 PG Tips half price, so I am going to buy a few boxes of them as that will save a fair bit over the next few months.

Will update sig now as had to buy some cat and dog food, and a tub of marge today.

    Mel x

Im relishing the GC this month as Im determined to crack it! I will be doing a small shop at Morrisons tomorrow and apart from the odd pint of milk this will be the only shop I do before a home delivery shop which is being delivered on the 14th Jan.

I fancy home made burgers on Sunday but dont have any mince in the house so will have to think of something else to have. This is my downfall - deciding I fancy something and then buying it rather than eating what I already have.

Im also intending on sitting down in the next day or so to plan my menu for January. I can then plan meals around what I already have. bring it on!
  • HI everyone and happy new year.

I'd like to join, please put me down for £70 for January this is just for little old me and will include stocking up on washing power, cleaning products etc.

I don't get paid until 15th of month so can't do big shop until then. Have just looked in my freezer and cupboards and am stunned at all the stuff I have in there so my resolution is to use up all this food for stews, soups and casseroles to keep me going until the 15th and hopefully beyond:D

It might help with the new year diet too:eek:
