Its great to see so many newbies joining us, welcome all :j

I didn't declare on December thread as I lost my last receipt but I was under budget.

MrsM Can you put me down for £80 for January please.

I've got a pretty well stocked cupboard and freezer but I'd like to do some batch cooking and baking this month.

    Good luck everyone! ;)

Someone was asking about butter making earlier in this thread, sorry lost the post, but here's a whole Making my Own Butter thread ;)

I made some last year in a my mixer and it was lovely. Make sure you get all the whey out or it goes rancid very quickly.

  • Hi, Decided 2009 will be a good financial year for us and I know through previously doing the Grocery Challenge that this is a good place to start and cut unneccessary spending down. I found that actually having somewhere to write down for all to see how much you actually spend on your shopping very motivational. :D

MrsM - Please can you put me down for £100 - thanks

Our month will run for the four complete weeks of January so it will be from the 5th to the 1st Feb inclusive. Our cupboards and freezer are so full still after horrendously overspending in December. Just updated our freezer inventory and I really should only need basics like milk, dog food etc. Will also make a note to myself to dig out our BM from the cellar where it was banished some 18 months ago when our kitchen was done!

I can foresee a supermarket trip very shortly but only for our Diet Coke addiction (going to work on that bad habit this year! :o ), kitchen roll, dog food and razors which will be a good £7-8 of our budget but DH is very good at making them last so will probably not need any for a month or two.

Good luck to everybody else this month!

    Morning all :D

Lovely to see soooo many new folks joining in :T

Well, I still haven't spent anything since the 22nd so my January budget is still in tact :A :rotfl: .....
We have snow out here..and its -9  -so there is the incentive to stay indoors and away from shops;)
My new years resolution on the GC is to not get carried away buying things that I wouldn't normally -just because they are "whoopsed" :p I have realised that it still leads to me spending more than I need :o

Dinner today is a HM lamb n vegetable pie I took out of the freezer with mashed potato/swede and veggies ......hubby has asked for even smaller portions -so Im going to make the pie do us twice (its only a victoria sponge size  ).... still If its enough then thats fine with me..will save money and as Im back on the weight loss wagon it will help things there too ;)

oooh we tried the venison and kangaroo diced steak the other day -and it was really nice :T I got to 1 kilo packs when it was on offer @ €3.99 a kilo ... and its low fat/cholesterol to boot :D
    -6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.5

Hello again and Happy New Year to everybody. I've not been posting for a couple of months now - went away for a month and had a computer crash (the dratted thing's still under guarantee thank goodness) and now that it's finally come back from the manufacturer it has a new hard drive so I've been busy reinstalling everything and trying to retreive as much as possible. Haven't been a happy bunny about this one

    Anyway..........

Mrs Macawber - Please will you put me down for £300 for January.

I need to go to Mr T today and get milk, fruit and veggies, otherwise we are still living out of the freezer. My shelves are quite full at the moment so hopefully we shan't need to spend too much this month.
  • havent done the gc in ages and its time i started again

    so

PLEASE Mrs Macawber can you put me down for £160?

    Thank You
  • Happy New Year everyone!

I've decided to change around the way I do the GC to incorporate petrol as well so my new target for food, petrol, toiletries etc is £250. This works out roughly £150 a month for food and £100 for petrol ( I live a fair drive from work, we live in a small village with not alot around ).

Going to have to venture to a supermarket soon, still have plenty of freezer food but we need staples like bread, butter etc and we haven't bought any food for 2 weeks now which I think is the longest I've stayed away! Just couldn't be bothered over the Christmas and with spending a few days over Christmas at family's houses we did get a couple of free meals :o

Right must go, I'm back at work today  ( well I suppose it had to happen sooner or later lol )

  • Another Newbie here, in fact I'm new to the whole OS thing, I have tried before but always seem to fall of the wagon. In my mind joining this challenge seems a good way of staying motivated so if nobody minds, I'm in!!

Could I be put down for £200 please? This is for myself and my DP, we usually spend around £250 but buy lots of junk and take aways so I am hoping that we can do £200, it is for 1st January til 1st Feb (pay day 2nd). It is to include all food, cleaning items and toiletries.

    Thank you for having me.

  • I hope I'm not too late to join this thread.

My month runs from 1st to 31st and I'd like to budget to £325. This is based on 5 shopping days (Saturdays) in the month at £65 per week. This is for me, my partner, my step-daughter, my mum and my dog, with my step-son on the weekends.

This is my first shopping challenge so I hope I'm doing it right! :oD

Can I join for £320? please
For me, OH and 2 toddlers.
Have spent hours last night and today writing up meals and trying to do meal planning, find it easy for evening meals but am trying to work out boys lunches as I end up feeding them rubbish because I haven't planned it, need to get more veg into them.
So far have an A4 page filled with our meals ideas and a little list of toddler food, if any one has any suggestions they'd be very welcome. I'm hoping to bulk cook things like bolognese so I can give them some for lunch but MW is bust so can't defrost quickly :(
