Hi Folks!
I’m kind of hoping that you don’t notice me sloping back in after a 6-month absence – but as I need to post my target, that’s hardly likely is it!
I never got back into the GC following our holiday last summer, but it’s time to knuckle down again, so I’d like to have my target for the month of January as £150 please. This is for 2 adults and a dog.
I’m going to get comfy with a glass of wine and go back to post 1 and see what everyone’s been up to, then I’ll check out my freezer and cupboards and get on with my menu planning.
I always feel as if I’m behind with this thread as it moves so quickly, and I tended not to post very often before, but I’m determined to keep up this time round!0 -
Happy New Year to all. I have updated my signature to reflect my Appr0ved F00d stockpile order and can confirm that all the chilli and kidney beans have now been frozen and that everyone (including the hedgehog in the garden) likes the chicken & sweetcorn soup.
I'm really looking forward to being a part of the grocery challenge this year as I'm planning on training myself to become much more domestic and a lot more greenfingered.
On the quitting smoking topic, I quit one year ago last night and have my own personal challenge 'fund' that I pay in £1.35 per day to represent my savings from not buying cigarettes. I cut right down for a year prior to stopping and included their purchase in my grocery amounts, although I wasn't on this challenge at the time, it was elsewhere. Good luck to all who are stopping - it isn't about the trying, it's about the succeeding.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Hi everyone,
Happy New Year! Can I join again please? Totally blew last month's budget  but it's a new year, fresh start and all that... so can you put me down for £40 please (for my side of the groceries only). This is for the full month as I was lucky enough to get Morrison's vouchers from my Mammy :A for Christmas, so they should do me for most of January.

Hi there, can I please join this challenge as I want to spend less on junk and unnecessary takeaways so I can more quickly pay off my debts. I'll ease myself in gently though and put £375 for January.:D
Good Luck to everyone!

Hi everyone - NSD for me today and hopefully won't spend too much over the weekend. I need Stardrops but only need to go to the corner shop for that and otherwise I am pretty much sorted.
I finished my cupboard/Fridge/Freezer audit today and made a start on batch cooking some stuff. I used up the last of the turkey in a big curry, which I padded out with a tin of chick peas in Marsala (Branston, v. nice) and so got two tubs for the freezer and tonight's tea out of that. I also found some blueberries in the fridge which I would have normally binned,as they were whoopsies and past their best, but I also found a bag of jam sugar in my cupboard so ended up making two jars of lovely blueberry jam! Also blitzed up stale bread and filled bags for the freezer. I am going to make quiche over the weekend - can you freeze it and would you freeze it before or after cooking?
So far I have spent £56 out of £250, but am hoping only to have to buy milk, fresh fruit and veg and eggs for the rest of the month as I have so much other stuff in.Jane
