Happy New Year everyone - hope you all had a good one.
I have decided that my New Year Resolution is to read through the Recipe Index on the front page, had a little browse the other day as I had some Soured Cream that needed using up and found a Soda Bread Recipe, it was delicious and made even better by the thought that it was made with something that would have otherwise been thrown away. ;)

Decided that needs to be another New Year Resolution, to never throw any food/ingredients away until I have found a recipe or some way of using it up.

Has anyone used "Approved Foods" website, can you recommend them? Can't remember who said they use them but I had a little browse and they look really good but any info would be useul.

Welcome to all the Newbies, you'll find loads of help and support on here and soon be hooked like the rest of us.:rotfl:

Have a good day everyone, off now to chill out with the family.:D

I know several people - including Nyk - have used them. I'm considering trying them this year -- but need to use up a lot of the groceries I have stockpiled first, otherwise I've nothing to store anything else :rolleyes2

    Happy New Year everyone!!

Wow this is SUCH a busy thread! Only been 2 days since I logged on and it's taken me ages to catch up!

Had a big bust up with my sister last night, but reading about Cheryl's and Adrina's news kind of puts things in perspective a little, doesn't it? My thoughts and good wishes to you both.

Planning on cooking up a storm later. Got 500g mince waiting to be dealt with and I usually only get the 250g size as there's only me and the child. I figure with lentils and/or oats I can stretch this a good long way. Making chilli, bolognese and shepherd's pie filling. Would like to freeze with the topping on but my mash always goes kinda soggy when it's defrosted.

Going to start taking packed lunches from next week. We have a subsidised restaurant at work but 4 days out of 5 it's pretty much salads and sandwiches anyway. And just got DD on board with that too. She has a flask for hot things but at the mo she'd prefer sandwiches - that'll all change in half and hour likely! So I think I'll just put her on 'em for 2 or 3 days a week, cos I'd rather she had a hot dinner in the winter.

I hadn't even thought about toiletries. TBH I am a bit of a toiletries hoarder. I have an airing cupboard that appears to be a back door into a Boots warehouse (Narnia Style)! :rotfl: It's a bit embarrasing really - I could probably go about 6 months without having to buy anything!

Loads of great advice and support on here - thanks everyone!

And good luck to all!! :hello:

Hi Scotsaver....I've used them and think they are brilliant! I got a smallish order at first cos I was a bit sceptical, and the stuff was perfectly fine....so I did a much bigger order :o.
They had run out of some of the stuff, and the man Dan, rang me a couple of days before Christmas and asked if I would accept substitutes. He reeled a list of stuff off and I just said 'yes or no'. The stuff arrived the next day...just in time for Christmas. I couldn't praise them enough, very helpful....although there might be others who haven't had as good as an experience with them as me.
    Hope this helps :)

  • Hello all

Am new to MSOS but am a regular on the DFW board. I have spent the morning trawling through threads as I have allocated myself and OHa budget of £100 per month for housekeeping, but have NO idea where to start.

Ufortunately OH is a fussy Bu**er and is a real meat and 2 veg sort of person, so mince dishes (other than Sherpherds Pie  )are out.

WHere do I start to get organised meal planning etc? What should a basic storecupboard really have in it?

Is there anyone else who has a fussy OH and still manages to keep to £100 budget? I;m not afraid of cooking from scratch, in fact I would prefer to, but just don't know where to start with the planning of it all.

Wish my granny was still alive!

OMG have also read Weezl's thread!!! How amazing is that woman!!?? :T
