  • Please could you include me in the Jan list. My calendar monthly spend for Jan is £350. That is for me, DH, 2 fussy kids and the dog. Including food, dog food, toiletries, cleaning products and take aways.

This is my first time budgeting for food, but we wasted so much last year that something needs to be done. The money could be so much better spent.

Unfortunately I will still have to go back to Mr T to exchange the toy:( .

Well, I went back to Mr T early this morning to avoid the same hassle as yesterday and exchanged the toy. DD is ecstatic:j . This was the one toy she wrote to Father Christmas about. I did a bit of a shop as well and have now got a few more things for the freezer and store cupboard. Apart from a bit of fruit and veg, I shouldn't need to go anywhere near a shop until well into next week.

Funny thing. According to the shelf price a four pack of Branston baked beans costs £2.18 but the individual ones are 52p each. Guess which ones I got ;) . Then at the checkout it turns out they are 4 for £1. There was no sign of the offer on the shelf so I got lucky. Maybe with this information someone else can too.

Just done my first shop out of Jan monies. Figured it is ok because shops closed tomorrow when I would have done it. Only spent £4.90 anyway. The supermarket was heaving, why do ppl need so much? The shops open again on Saturday for goodness sake! arrrgh:mad:

On the plus side, am looking after DGS11 today and my daughter brought some food to feed him and my two sons for lunch! Totally not necessary but welcome all the same.:rotfl:

Thank you for replies to my earlier question (very helpful!!) Just another question regarding veg box deliveries, does anybody else get these, I've started to get them again and not sure if it will cut my monthly food bill down. I only spend around £20 - £25, but I tend to make do with what is there for the week so it does keep me out of the shops, I also tell the children that when the fruits gone they will have to wait till the following week, just interested if anybody else gets these delivered and find it helps.
    Thanks
I get a veg box each week and then a sack of potatoes from the farm shop monthly.

Fruit i buy at the shop/market as we were having to top up anyway.

It certainly makes you more inventive as to what veggies you are going to use.

I spend £10 p/w on the organic veg box then another £3-4 on fruit depending on what the boys fancy.

This size box is usually the right sort of size for us and i change it to a salad box during the "summer" months.

I have signed up to the grocery challenge already and have a question pls. ( If by some miracle that I manage to stick to my budget), is there a general rule of saving the remainder and keeping track of the saving total or do we spend the remainder/pay off debt/ etc?

    Good luck everyone !!!!!!

I'm going to put any leftover Grocery Money (fingers crossed there'll actually be some the odd month  ) into my Xmas 2009 fund. Along with my save a £1 a day for Xmas (personal challenge) fund .

    Hi Le Foot
Thanks to what we've saved from our Grocery Challenge -which paid half-we are off to Central Amercia for a month at the end of July - travelling from Panama, through Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras to Guatemala.
In 2010 we hope to take our Nephew to Pearl Harbour-His choice-so 2009's savings will go towards that.
Thanks for the interest and what about you??? SFT (Make it quick before we're deleted for being off topic)
We are hoping to take our campervan across to Greece. But Diesel will be expensive if the £ is still weak.
If I can keep under my £300 grocery budget, I will be able to save for diesel.
I think its good to have a 'purpose' it inspires me to save.
    Feb. G.C. From Jan 26th £350.00
    First month..pure guess!! Wk. 1 £136.38 balance £213.62. Wk.2 £108.10p balance £105.52
