    Morning all!

off to work again soon till 10pm tonight and still under the weather but slightly improving each day - slept well which is a good thing. Now DS1 has come down with it too and he is a typical man-flu sufferer;) :D

Havent had chance to hit the sales due to illness and work but the only one I will be interested in is the M & S one as father Christmas gave me a £50 gift card!:j a couple of new bras I think for me.

Mrs_Mix - hope you both feel better soon x

(((hugs))) to anyone else feeling poorly - its no fun being ill at Christmas.

Havent done any food shopping since Christmas eve but need some coffee and my brown bread(I'm the only one that eats it) might pop out from work later if I get the chance.
Hope you all have a lovely sunday.

    Take care x

    Good morning all,

I have the breadmaker on this morning as I've promised our neighbours a loaf (in exchange for the turkey sandwich they made for me on Boxing Day).

The washing is all done, just a basket of clothes left to iron.

I will be making myself a nice roast chicken dinner tonight. I'm possibly not as sick of poultry as some as I didn't buy a turkey this year due to dh being away. Ds won't eat chicken, so he can have fishfingers, which he does like, and potatoes. He has eaten very scrappy meals over the last few days due to excitement/visiting/vistors etc so last night I made him lamb stew which he loved (I still have to puree the veg so he can't see it though, sigh!).

I've recovered from my cold, but ds is still coughing. I think we have about another week to go before that stops. It's cold and frosty here, so as much as I'd like to go out, I don't feel happy about dragging the small coughing person with me.

I've given the sales a miss too. I don't need anything. We did pop out to the toy shop yesterday as a certain person's Christmas money was burning a hole in his pocket :rotfl:

    Take care all of you

    Morning :santa2:

Its lovely and sunny here today, just been outside to empty the kitchen bin and its FREEZING, oooo I hate the cold it makes my joints ache, ah well never mind I plan to stay in today in the warm....but watch this space, OH may have other plans.....;)

Dinner is left over beef from Christmas, with all the trimmings, but we will have it at lunch time, then have crusty bread and cheese with salady stuff for tea, and that will be the end of that, just a couple of bendy carrots left but I will put them in a stew tomorrow.

All in all its been a good Christmas, and food wise its been very good, I have wasted NONE at all, I am so proud of myself :D
Up to yesterday I'd had 3 NS days and that is bloomin marvellous, I can go hit the sales now :rotfl: I really need some new boots, the ones I have I bought from Matalan 4 yrs ago, they have been well worn but I keep thinking I could perhaps get another winter out of them, they are so comfy.
I will have a look tomorrow in Redditch and see whats on offer, perhaps I'll get a bargain ;)

Smoky - I think you are doing great, and you know, sometimes it does good to shed a few tears and to let the LO's know that you are feeling just as hurt/confused/upset/lonely as they are :A x
tru - you are so organised :T
mrs-mix - I hope you both feel better soon x
Kathy - I just hate visiting when the TV is on, it distracts people and the conversation is a bit stilted, and anyway its so rude.We have some friends like that, and me being me  asked politely if it could be turned down a bit, they were most appologetic and said they didnt realise it was so loud, its been fine ever since  Like you though I prefer music in the background.

Well I think I have waffled on long enough,I better go get the spuds+veggies sorted.

(((Hugs))) for anyone feeling poorly or under the weather xx

I did a quick dust y/day and DM was impressed with my HM polish so I said she can have the tin, I'll have to make some more.

That sounds interesting :T Can you tell me how to make it please? I once did some with olive oil & lemon juice that was great but have forgotten the recipe now ;)

    Hi SUNNYGIRL,
I haven't done the oil and juice type, the HM polish I make is using the following

    6ozs of melted beeswax
    6ozs Turpentine ( don't use Turps Substitute it won't work )
    6ozs Linseed oil

Heat them to between 85c and 90c stiring well. Leave to cool but poar into a container before it goes solid.

I add a few drops of Lavender oil before it sets.

I get the ingredients from our local hardware store. It doesn't cost much and lasts ages, well, depending on how often it's used.;)

Let me know how you get on.
  • Hi Guys!
We are at the holiday cottage:j :j :j ...took nearly 3 hrs and was freezing but luckily we bought the fan heater too. OH & DD have just popped to local Tesco for some eggs and paper. We also need to get some filler as there is a major draft coming in from the patio window which OH needs to fix. It's so peaceful and tranquil here...we love it.

The new mobile internet usb pen thingy OH got through Quidco for under £5pm is working well and has a good signal. It's running fast and theres no fees on top.

Need to cook up some diced chicken later to make a curry for tomorrow. May have some cheese and crackers later.

    ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((smokey))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

    Take care everyone.

    Afternoon all

Glad to hear everyone had a nice Christmas - same here :D Nice quiet Christmas Day and DS DIL and GC on Boxing Day. We bought DS and DIL a laptop for Christmas and they took the wrapping off and said to DGD what do you think it is and she said its a box, an empty one lol :rotfl:Glad they weren't disappointed ;)

Went to our local town this morning to pop into Woolies for the last time :( Hardly anything left on the shelves. Bought some dark Lindt chocolate to save for baking and a little box of stickers for DGD. I used to be a Saturday girl in there many many moons ago. I remember working on the dog and cat food counter where we used to have to pile the tins up like a pyramid and the times I knocked them down leaning between them to give customers their change and bruising my knuckles to boot :o :rotfl: :D

Had salad, potatoes and cold meats yesterday, same today and then I will freeze up what is left.

Me, DH and DS have decided we will all go on a diet together in the New Year as our resolution. I hope we actually managed to achieve something this time instead of just talking about it ;) We will see.

Have a good day all, and keep warm, its brrrrrrrrrr out there

    Good afternoon all!

Just dispatched kids' dad off to town to get card for ds for tomorrow and pick up a couple of bits for him so he has something to unwrap, he is having money for his birthday though, so only token/funny gifts are being given. Actually he has already spent his money, he wanted an x-box, and with his Christmas money, the birthday money I am giving him and the money he has saved from his job he had enough, so I ordered it yesterday for him. Looks like a very good deal, and he did all the research himself (though okay, I confess, I did my own as well, just in case!)

Other than that the girls are all playing happily in the sitting room, they are doing my keep fit on the wii for me, as apparently I'm meant to do it every day! Yeah right!

I am baking bread, lots of french sticks for tonight for garlic bread, to be eaten with green beans in toms and garlic which are languishing in the freezer (I need the space). Will also be making a mega choc cake for ds and girls will decorate it for him! Turkey stock is reducing again on the hob, and duck is about to be stripped and frozen, then the carcass will be boiled! Dog will get all the boiled bones as usual, no wonder he's refusing to eat at the mo - he's like one of the bisto kids following the smell!

Need to have a good old tidy round again later, stuff is everywhere, no idea where it all comes from, but I'm pretty certain that make up cases and mirrors and colouring stuff doesn't usually live on the mantelpiece!

Smokey - good luck with the bribe! As others have said, it does children no harm to realise that you are hurting too, they see that you are still managing to cope as well, which I think reassures them.

Kathy - glad you enjoyed your friends, I'm with Pippa, I'd have had to ask for the telly to go off though! Drives me insane if it's on and nobody's watching it!

N9eav - wow to your bargains! Good luck with finding some shoes! Asda suits wash well in the wm, they're the same as the much more expensive M&S version!

Donny - enjoy your travels, and big hello to Merry Widow!

Tru - I use Asda's cheapy plastic mini lunchboxes, just right for freezing single portions, think they're 48p. They're pretty strong so don't crack.

Sunnygirl - Please let us know what the Frugal Cook book is like, I've just been looking at it on Amazon!

Taplady - hope you are fully recovered soon, and Mrs Mix and other poorlies.

Well done to all who've found fab bargains, or stuff at their mum's house! I need nothing, so will be trying to stay away! I have more clutter than I know what to do with and it's driving me insane! Doesn't mean I won't be having a look online though! Did just have a look at the watch I wanted, it's gone up by £40, ouch! Think it's staying on the wish list till it comes back down again!

Have good days one and all xx

  • Afternoon, everyone. We've been having a nice lazy day for the most part, although we have to head into the cold for a few bits and pieces in a little while. Just going to take it easy before I do a big blitz on the kitchen later (if I feel up to it!) and then make meatballs for tea with a nice tomato sauce. It'll be good to get back to reality and some healthy meals. I spent some of yesterday afternoon planning the week ahead's menu and feel a bit better (if a bit overweight still) about it!

Hope everyone has a good day. (((hugs))) to those that need them. :)

  • Afternoon folks

Have not been up too long, but just taken delivery of Tesco shop. Why is it that when you need an integral ingredient for a receipe, that ingredient doesn't arrive?! Moussake without aubergines, just isn't right!

Dishwasher is on, lamb is in the oven for Mr CG which we will have this evening. Just need to do the veg and will do extra for bubble n squeak tomorrow. Mr CG is pushing the hoover around the flat and then off to wash the cars and give them their weekly mini-service... all whilst I sit here and smell the food cooking! God bless the Army and their wonderful training!!!!

Enjoy your day ladies n gents

    :heartpuls CG :heartpuls

PS Have some toffee yoghurt which is about to turn... I don't like yoghurt and was wondering what I could do with it? Am making a crumble for pudding to have with custard later... would it be gross if I added the yoghurt to the custard?
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
  • Afternoon all
We had roast beef & all the trimmings today & apple crumble for pud, apart from visiting family we haven't left the house since Christmas eve, but hubby's meant to be back at work tomorrow. If he goes in I'll pop into town as I need some new gloves, I may get a visitor tomorrow, Katy is back in the UK, & want's to come over & say Hi, she's starting work on 6th at a school in London, so will be near her friends, heaven help the school.
I have 36 meals in the freezer made from the Christmas leftovers so that will keep us going for a while.
    Hugs Hester
