Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sales day!! This is an “Over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone is welcome so please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well”, type start does just as well.

Good morning to all.

Up early cannot sleep in when I really want to.

Hope everyone is well and going to have a good OS sunday.

DD2 20th birthday today so not only am I up early but will be going to bed very late having picked up her and her friends after a night out!

Good morning Hermoine and happy birthday to your DD2.

Well, I didn't come on here at all yesterday because we had visitors during the day and were invited to visit friends last night. Their boiler had broken down so it was freezing there and I couldn't have much to drink to warm me up because I was doing the driving! They're lovely friends but they do insist on having the TV on when you visit (and it's a 50" screen so you couldn't take your eyes off it!); they keep the volume up so I find it really hard to talk. We all end up shouting at each other and then I just switch myself off because I can't compete! They're coming to us next time - that way I can just keep music on in the background!

We couldn't believe how frosty it was when we left to come home; it took ages warming the car up and defrosting the windows. I was so glad to get back home and into bed.

We had a wonderful Christmas and a relaxing Boxing Day - it's going to be hard getting back into the swing of normal life again. DH is back at work tomorrow and I am doing two hour emergency shifts back at the surgery from 10-12 for the next three days. I shall take a book to read in case we don't have any emergencies, and a thick cardi because it's always cold in there!

Today is our last lazy day so I shall keep the housework to a minimum and spend the afternoon on the sofa.

I hope all those of you who have been ill are better now - there's been so many bugs doing the rounds lately. I seem to have escaped them (having been ill last Christmas) but I know lots of people have been suffering.

Well, I still haven't made Jamie Oliver's turkey, bacon and leek pie, mainly because we've run out of bacon and I can't be bothered to go shopping at the moment! I shall have a go later in the week. I've avoided all but the local paper shop since Christmas eve; I don't do the sales immediately after Christmas because I can't stand the crowds and don't want to go shopping just for the sake of it. The sales will be on all year, I suspect!

Well, I'm going to put the kettle back on so I'll pop back later.

    Have a great day.

    Morning.

It's 1c and very cold out there, with the breeze, I am sure the wind chill makes it very cold indeed.

I am off to work soon, and it could be a very boring day without much work. It's always like that between Christmas and New Year...

Bought a new suit in ASDA sale yesterday, pooped in for milk for work and notice a sale on blokes stuff. A whole suit for £24! and not that cheap black thing they do either! A dress shirt for £4 minus the VAT stuff and I get a court suit outfit for £27....:D
Can't find any new shoes though....

    Well shower and off.... Cheers

    Morning All
Something obviously on my mind as awoke at 5:eek: . Blackberry & Apple Pie made and a mincemeat tart (large one) both inthe over as we speak - don't all faint, I did do the pastry Boxing Day and put it in the fridge. Made a loaf and a fruit loaf yesterday, and just going to put another in now, as going away in the 'van, but DS & GF will be here. You lot are really have a bad influence on me :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Welcome Merry Widow I let her know about us from another thread, but as she posted quite late at night on Friday I think we missed her, but I know you lot are usually very welcoming, maybe you can look after her while I am away, though I am sure she will have plenty to say for herself.;)

Have the 'van to pack with clothes and food, we have had it heating up on the drive so will be nicely aired.

Smoky - I wonder how your tears affected your biggest LO. Maybe you need to let him see you need his help, and it may help him IYKWIM, I know you don't want to put pressure on him just cos he is the biggest, but maybe a little I need help as I am missing Dad so much too, could work for him. (((BIG GENTLE HUGS)))

    Morning all,

Its very cold here in the west midlands this morning.
When we went out shopping yesterday we did pick up some bargins.
We had one shoulder of lamb for £3.99
and then we went into wollworths and got the twins 1 pack of bibs,
3 sleep suits and two summer dressis for £4.50 for the lot. at the moment if you buy 1 item of kids clothes you get 3 free!!!!!!!!:j thay really are just giving away what thay have left!!!!!!!
And as each shop shuts thay are then moveing whats left of the stock on to another shop. So there is new stock arriving at shops each day. But it is now gettig less and less and you really need to look for stuff as is just being dumped on the shevles.

We will be having the lamb for dinner today. Its going to be a normal roast dinner for us today and then a nice relaxing afternoon at home with the twins.

Anyway im off to get another coffee before the twins wake up and wonthere food.

have a great day all. ill pop by later to see how you are all getting on.

    enjoy your day:j :j
:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j

Good Morning All - pretty chilly here too!
Still have the family with us, not yet sure when they go home, but all having a pretty lazy time here!
Had to visit the supermarket for milk yesterday, but apart from that not been shopping since Christmas Eve. I don't like the crowds at Sales time either - and as we don't really need anything I'm better keeping away!
Hope those who have been unwell are now recovering - DH still is coughing, but hopefully the worst of the chest infection is now over.
Need to get over to school tomorrow and finish up there - once I hand my keys over I'll probably begin to feel more relaxed and start to sleep properly again
Hope you all have a good Sunday - and ((HUGS)) to all feeling lonely, sad or unwell.

    Morning everyone!

Spent Christmas at my parents so mum has given me lots of food to take back home. Have some of my old things in boxes on top of the wardrobe and thought I would just have a quick look to see what was in them. Fantastic finds - cute kilt, nice Jane Norman dress, some t-shirts and a pair of trainers which are in better shape than my current ones. Who needs the sales!

Hoping traffic is not going to be too bad today. Planing to do lots of housework when I get home so place looking good for New Year. Going to pirint off Flylady tasks and stick them to the fridge.

    Morning :hello:

We've got friends coming over tonight so I'll be cooking this morning - just nibbles 'n stuff for a buffet, I can't be bothered to do a meal :D Then get the ironing done. I aim to be sat down by 2pm, refining my plans for 2009 while watching tele :D

tru's OS, organisation and budgeting for 2009 so far- it's not finished, I'll update it and post it on here as I go :DI'll only do it now and then, as part of my posts on the daily, don't wanna go OT.

    - For groceries in 2008, I was aiming for £3000 for the year – that’s £250 per month or £57.69 per week. This includes toiletries and cleaning stuff. I’ve spent £3704.54 – that’s £308.71 per month or £71.24 per week.
Still, I’ve written lists and done inventories for the freezers so I’ll be a bit more organised for 2009.

    - We planted extra fruit bushes in October and the veg patch is about to be extended – the kids are older now so what’s the point of a big lawn?

    - I’ve kept all the Christmas gift guides and catalogues so I’ll go through those for ideas for presents throughout the year.

    - We’ve got some Asda vouchers, I’ll use them to stock up on dry stuff (flour etc.) and buy milk, fruit and veg throughout january. We’ll buy eggs from mr tru’s friend at work, she loves her chickens and has loads of them :D Apart from that, we don’t need to buy any food til February. Except for plastic bread, which mr tru prefers

We bought more Pyrex dishes just before Christmas, from Woolies so massively reduced. I need some small ones too, anyone know where I can get them as cheap as poss? I want to make loads of individual ready meals for the freezer. They don’t have to be pyrex, as long as they’re reusable and cheap I’ll be happy :D I don’t want foil ones, which is all I can find at the mo

    Morning Everyone!

Not doing much here either apart from walk the dogs at some point. DH worked until 11pm last night & didn't get home until 12.30am so I'm leaving him in bed this morning. I've done my usual tidy round, WM on, fed dogs, cats & fish and now it's my half hour at comp!

I'm sewing this afternoon - got two pairs of jeans to repair for dd & ds2, buttons to sew on 3 shirts & a hem to catch back up. Then I'll see if I can find a film to watch & do some cross stitch. If not I collected The Frugal Cook by Fiona Beckett from the library yesterday so I'll have a read & see if I can pick up any ideas LOL!

Roast dinner here too with some of frozen leftover turkey so looking forward to that. Have a good day everyone, hugs to all.

    Louise xx
