Recycling rip off

Options
Week after week I leave my recycling out for the council to take, how much are they making from my paper, tins and plastic and why don't they give me any money back for it as presumably this stuff is sold on:(

Do any moneysaving experts know how much I can get for this stuff and if any companies out there will take my recycling and pay me for it as I am fed up with the blood sucking local authority making ££££'s out of me.

Well any money they make will firstly go to pay the costs of the collections. And I assume that the rest goes back in to the coffers.

So that your council tax does not rise by a silly amount each year.

To make any money out paper, tins, plastic you will need tonnes and tonnes of the stuff not just a few black bags of it.

  • Why not just burn it in your back garden....this way you kill 2 birds with one stone…

….they don’t get your paper etc to sell on & you get to pollute the environment!

Some of the sharks out there that do the work for councils, have been none to ship our waste to Asia.

I dont see how you expect we get paid for our own rubbish though. I much rather we recycle more than dump our !!!!!! in a landfill.

Thank yourself lucky you have recycling facilties I dont have a recycle bin not that I have much room to put it in the pittence of a back yard, let alone store papers, cards etc. I do recycle what I can but I would perfer it done at collection day.

I am the first to complain about council tax also, I hate the bloddy thing even more when I know people who are fair better off than I am, pay naff all.

They used to get paid for it, if you remember 15 odd years ago Scouts used to collect cans and then weigh them in at a recycling facility to raise funds. But since all councils now have to meet targets the companies that actually do the recycling have more matteriel avaliable then they can use, hence most counclis now have to pay the recyclers. Also, a large part of it still ends up in land fill and we export lots of waste paper to Asia and scrap metal to China, lots of the ISO containers you see on the backs of Articulated trucks are actually carrying waste being exported!!!!

I wish our council would provide recycle bins, we get bags, which are difficult to use and difficult to store!!!! Ive now run out of them, have requested more but none have turned up, so my recycling is going back into normal household waste, which i hate. I dont mind about the council making money from the recycling, i would just like the chance to do it properly!!!!!

My council is reported to have the most advanced recycling faciltiy in Europe, so I daresay this has taken an awful lot of investment. I doubt very much if at the moment they actually make any money on recycling because of this, but it's good to know that the council is able to spend at least some of our money on sensible things for a change.

Now, if they could get themselves off the list for having the highest rate of council employees taking sickness & absence from work, they may qualify for 2 stars from me.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I have a recycling bin. They are supposed to empty it once a month which isn't that frequent really but I once saw them emptying it into the normal rubbish!

I doubt any council will ever give you an incentive for creating any form of rubbish, whether it be rubbish that can be recycled or not. Recycled rubbish is of course better than rubbish that ends in land fills, but it is still a pollutant.

Look on the bright side, in Germany the council will charge you for taking away any form of rubbish which can not be recycled. I can't remember the amount now, but its a per bag fee.

Personally I think there are bigger issues out there linked to local government than a potential few pence profit per household and as others have said the money does go back into the system.

If you want to put your rubbish to a good cause, then there are plenty of charities out there who use used stamps in order to help raise money, same with aluminium cans and paper could quite happliy be shredded by yourself and handed to a neighbour or friend who can use it for animal bedding or (if I can find the link) it can be used for home insulation by a very good environmentally friendly insulation company.

Oh and forgot to add, if you want to not recycle your plastic bags then do not use them and use supermarket left over boxes or reusable bags / boxes.
